full screen video using WMV
i have compressed 640x480 video down to 700 kbps and all other variations and cannot get the playback to run smoothly. frame rates run about 1/4 of what i set them at. is 4700 hardware just not capable of smooth video playback in wmv?

Hi wigby - welcome to the site

Have you tried using Betaplayer? there is a sticky in the multimedia forum.

I think it is a matter of the high bitrate you are using. Have you tried a lower bitrate?

Even though the the hx4700 has a 624MHz processor using high bitrates take an enormous amount of CPU cycles to process.

Use the ASF plugin to play WMV files with Betaplayer.

Plays it smoother than media player and full screen.

Note: Most WMV files run fine on Betaplayer, but one of them when I tried to seek forward it froze my 4700 and I had to soft reset. Seeking worked fine in media player however. But I'd still pick Betaplayer over media player hands down.

There is a link to the ASF plug-in in the sticky - after you have it you need to:

1) install into the Betaplayer directory on your PPC
2) Go into Settings in Betaplayer on your PPC and associate Betaplayer with WMV files.

hmm...still having a problem.

i have installed betaplayer onto my SD card and also installed the asf files in to the same folder...when i try to associate the wmv files with betaplayer the only file options i have are:

video files (avi, divx)
windows waveform (wav, rmp)
MPEG audio (1,2,3 and a)
ogg vorbis
and a couple of playlist options...

i presume here there should be an entry for windows media files? i have got everything ticked apart from the playlist files and the videos still dont work...they dont even show up in the file browser in betaplayer.

Did you download the right ASF plugin for your version eg) .94 betaplayer and .94 plugin - as everything else you have done should make it work
