underclocking hx4700?
Is there a utility program that i could underclock the processor speed to lengthen the battery life on my hx4700.

battery life is already good on this device but it would be nicer to extend the battery life more specially if u only use the device for browsing or word processing.

Welcome to the IpaqHQ site.

As far as I know you can't underclocking the processor speed in the OS. But hardware wise, it is already incorporated in the PXA270 processor to change the speed automatically according to the software loaded.

Couple of tips you might want to take:

1. Change the backlight to a lowest visible light under different circumstance
Due to the more pixels on the screen, it requires more power from the battery, thus reduce the backlight can help prolong the battery life after one full charge.

2. Manage the power to auto shut the screen in shorter time with idle action

3. Turn off WIFI/Bluetooth if not in use.

Only my limited input. Others must have better ideas on this.

Good luck

I did some testing. Playing Ogg Vorbis files with BetaPlayer at different CPU/memory/LCD speeds, I got :

624MHz out of the box - 4.2 hours battery life
218MHz with RAM, bus and LCD speeds half the standard ones - 7.7 hours
78MHz, 78MHz bus, 39MHz RAM, 78MHz LCD - 10 hours!

These times were extrapolated by starting with a full charge, listening for an hour and checking the charge capacity.

I used Pocket Hack Master to switch speed.

I am using xcpuscalar and scale my hx4700 at 312/520/624/663. It works fine without significant issue. I advise not to use pocket hack master 2004. The previous version worked fine in my h2210 but this version seems not stable for 270 device. It always slowly responses to various applications and even hangs the device and requires soft reset. I prefer xcpusaclar and it preserve more battery in addition to overclock to 663 with sound stable performance so far.

Hi,

I use xCPUScalar and it works well for me (the icons are a bit blocky but ok)...I agree, do not try to overclock it as it will lock your IPAQ within seconds.

cheers

Excellent! this is exactly the reason i want to underclock my HX to extend the battery life. Good work! Bravo.

663 is the fastest overclock speed that seems stable.

PHM has a new release that fixes most of the stability issues.

I have been playing with xcpuscalar and it seems relatively stable now at 663......Betaplayer crashes it with the matrix 2 sample file at 1500kbps, but otherwise is fine,

I use it with the autosetting so it only winds itself up to 663MHz at processor utilisation above 70%
