No Active Sync with Bluetooth ??
All Experts,
hx4700 manual says if you make a bluetooth acitive sync the COM you read on the pc in the acive sync window under connections should set to the value you see in the bluetooth-window of the pc under my serial COMs.
But I cann't change it: It is COM3 and no other COM could set.
On the other hand manual says, that serial COMs on the hx4700 and pc in bluetooth connection sould be equal.
But the serial COMs on the 4700 are fixed 5 and 8 (greyed out)
Every help is welcome.
Gerhard

You shouldn't have to change anything. If the BT Virtual COM port on the PC is COM3 then that is fine.

1. Make sure that the BT serial port service on the PC is enabled.
2. Make sure that the BT radio is active on the PC.
3. Goto BT Manager on the PPC search for new BT devices.
4. Locate and setup the connection for the serial port on the PC.
5. On the desktop configure Activesync to use COM3 for connection properties.
6. Double tap the activesync BT icon. You should be able to sync.

For more info take a look at my BT guide found at http://www.aximsite.com/bluetooth/index.htm.

Ted, many thanks for help.
I read your guide again and again. Many items run like you described. But my problem sticks:
Opening My Bluetooth Places on desktop my device shows COM 13.
Activesync on desktop connection settings show only COM3 and IR, no other choice!
No COM 13 or any other COM. Due to this, I think I will get no activesync and can not syncing.
Is there a chance if I will delete all Activesync software on my desktop and my notebook (I have the notebook as 2nd pc and all my trials are made here) ??

OK... now your describing something that is a little different. In your first post you mentioned COM3. In the next post you mentioned COM13. If it is truly COM13 then you do have an issue at the desktop end. You most likely have to play with the CMOS settings to change that. Or perhaps disable any devices that is using a COM port in CMOS. Uninstall your BT software. Reboot with all of the Serial devices disabled. Once the desktop is backup install the BT software. You should find the serial port now using something between COM1 - COM4. In order for this to happen you need to make sure that everything is disabled that would use a COM port; including IR. Then start enabling the COM devices that you need. Hopefully the BT serial port will remain somewhere between COM1 - COM9. That way AS will be able to see it.

Ted,
due to your hint, I will inspect the 4 USB port of my new Centrino Notebook. I agree, that here could be the problem.
The notebook has a internal 56k Softmodem SX 56 from Motorola. I think it uses the virtual COM 5.
I tried to install ActiveSync on different USB-ports. Maybe there are some setting remaining in the registry?
Do you know if it is possible to reset all virtual COM ports?
What happens if I deinstall all USB ports in the device manager and make a restart?
Will the notebook find and install all ports again?
MS mystery.

Good question. Normally if you disable devices via the CMOS it will free things up upon the next reboot.

Just a thought....

In the past I've had the IR Port on my portable interfering with syncing of devices.

You might want to try disabling your IR port (Device Manager -> disable in this configuration) and see if it helps you out. It's probably COM4 and I never use the IR anyway. YMMV

I also had problems due to the fact that I had been using a Palm prior to the 4700 and the Palm software interefered with activesync until I removed it from my D'top.

My bet is that the issue is the IR Port...........

Wow, thought I had your solution there. My problems sounded exactly as you described and they went away when I disabled the IR port on my portable PC.

Is there a way to disable it on the 4700?

Ski,
Ir is disabeled on the 4700 too .
I think the main problem seems to be that "somebody" has occupied all COMs from com 4-14. I have not found any way how to get rid of this situation.
Also I searched the registry and all other places to see theese COMs and the applications linked with them, but up to now without effort.

Activesync will use COM1 - COM9.

For example BT dongle uses COM7 on my laptop. I can select COM7 in AS and things work fine. The trick is of course getting your USB dongle to use a COM port between 1 - 9.

Ted,
I managed to free all COMs from 1 to 14! I tried to change the com for the internal modem from 5 to 9. Than 5 was free. Than I changed to modem to com1 and 9 was free.
In the same way to changed it from com 2 to 14. An finaly all port where free!!
Does your 4700 have also show COM 5 for incomming and COM 8 for outgoing serial connections? Both greyed out and impossible to change?

I think this is now my next problem, because AS and dongle refuses to use one of them and still no AS connection is possible.

When Syncing via bluetooth the only com port that matters is which one is being used by your PC for a bluetooth serial connection. It doesn't matter what your PDA is set to, those ports do not come into play. If you have your PC's bluetooth serial set to something less than 9, change the port in AS to match it and once the devices are paired you should be able to sync.

I'am sorry, but after at least seven days searching, I succeed to link Activesync via BT with my VAIO. This ONLY was succesfull after I changed the COM port (mentioned under Standard Serial over Bluetooth link) to COM 5, one of the ports greyed in the settings of my PDA. So, in my opinion it is essential to see to obtain (at least one) of the greyed numbers for the com ports on the PDA.
