iPAq FM transmitter for car radio
I tried this in the hardware forum with no luck. Hopefully someone here might have some thoughts.

I've seen a couple of devices which broadcast the sound from the iPAQ headphone jack to a car stereo using an FM radio signal. Great idea, I thought.

But they all need batteries and/or run from the car cigarette lighter, which isn't so great seeing as I'll need to use that to keep the iPAQ charged up on long trips. A cigarette lighter socket powerboard for the car would solve the problem but it's not really an ideal solution - I don't want the inside of my car looking like the back of my workstation!

Does anybody make such a transmitter that will use the CF socket on my 4700, thus running off the iPAQ's own battery so I only need one charging cable?

Thanks

I have a belkin FM broadcaster. It runs on two AAA batteries and lasts forever. I've used it about 2-3 hours per day evey day for the past month and still haven't had to change them. But the reception isn't great. Its good, but not cd quality and fades in and out depending on outside environment.

I have decided to ebay the belkin and get a audio input adapter for my alpine car cd player. Most car stereos that can control cd changers ahve the option of getting these. They are like $30 and the sound has to be way better. So I'm sell my belkin cheap on ebay if you need one.

I haven't come across a cf fm broadcaster either, but that would be cool

Silly question but can it braodcast the RDS "traffic info" message so that you can listen to a CD and have the radio cut in when the ipaq give direction updates? Just like traffic anouncements of RDS equiped radios?
Am i asking for too much again????

I use the iRock, which is similar to the Belkin. The batteries last for a very long time. I agree the adapter would sound better as you get a lot of static from any other option. However, the iRock and Belkin can be bought pretty cheap on eBay and work fairly well. I wouldn't want to listen to it for a long time, but I don't keep a lot of music on my iPAQ anyway.
