mail but no browser
I am so annoyed with myself for messing with the settings! everything has been working great for weeks. collect my mail, chat to friends in msn and surf from the couch!

NOT ANY MORE

I have spent the last 5 hours trying to get IE to stop saying 'the page you are looking for cannot be found' the instant I click a link . mail still works great. I thought it was a dns problem but tried everything I know to fix it!

MSN messanger also works fine. just BLOODY INTERNET EXPLORER

any ideas would be much appreciated!

It might help if you told us what settings you have been "messing" with.

- Start -> Settings -> Connections
- Click on the icon Connections -> Click Advanced
- Under Select Networks
- Set Both to MY ISP

- Start -> Settings -> Connections
- Click on iPAQ Wireless icon
- enable wifi
- click settings
- single tap on your wifi/connected label (ie your router or hotspot id)
- connects to should be set to internet
- Hit ok back on the "Configure Wireless Networks" setting
- Click Network Adapters. It should be set to WORK (You will find that you cannont change that)

I think you may be picking up your email from your intranet which in turn maybe because your configuration has gotten changed to only use "my work" as your internet feed.

Another issue might be that when your hotspot/router got connected u may have pulled it to say my work instead of my isp/internet.

but b4 u try what i suggest maybe it would be benificial to see what your settings acutally say.. in the spots i mention to make changes.

Also if you use your intranet i.e use shares of computers or if you only use it to connect to the net.

Sorry for the lack of information.. frustration was clouding my mind!
So at home I have a broadcom broadband wifi router. I connect both my main PC and laptop to the net through it.
When i first got my hx4700 i connected it to the net through the router. It has worked like a charm for weeks but I had to turn off the wep key in order for it to work (my home network is now vulnerable) but hey I could surf on the ipaq from infront of the TV.

Here's the crunch ! I also have a wifi setup at work and I was trying to connect to that yesterday just to collect mail. The problem was that I forgot about disabling the wep key and couldn't get connected. In my error I decided to clean up all the different connection profiles i had on there. Ones that were left over from attempts to connect for the first time.

when I returned home I could collect mail etc but as I said the browser just says 'the page you are looking for cannot be found' the instant I click a url (like it doesn't even try and look for it)

I have tried all combiniations of settings .. I assume I should only use the wifi network adapter in the 'Network cards' tab (I have 6 in there) and have tried setting the 'my network connects to' to both work and internet
I have tried setting a static ip from the router and tried setting the dns maually and automatic

in the advanced connections> select networks I have used all the ones in there (even some I did not set up) I think the problem is that I deleted all of these and tried to set up just the one I needed!
Right nowow it is set to 'myISP' and under edit I just get the general and modem tabs which have nothing filled in! (appart from the name in the general tab)

In the 'Configure wireless network section I have it set to all available networks with no wep key enabled and the horrible (always on if wep key enabled) ieee 802.1 PEAP greyed out!

I tried connecting to both 'work' and the 'intenet' in the 'connect to:' box.

so those are the settings I was messing with. STILL I cannot surf but mail and msn work great!

I was thinking about a hard reset but have never had to do one and have all sorts installed .. I am a bit worried about losing everything installed (tomtom favourites maps and the like)

Hope to resolve this within the next week

thanks for you input
Tim

I have read this post with interest as I haven't heard of this type of issue before. So was wondering if you have managed to resolve it.
a). if you have then how did you resolve it?
b). if not I would like to help out.

I think the 4700 is the best ppc available Today. :>)

Having downloaded tha little Program PocketWinC (thanks Silber1) I Could see that the IP and everything was good appart from the Dns Settings. Some how the DNS was Stuck on 127.0.0.0 and It was not accepting response from the DHCP server. I then tried filling it in manually In the Network adapter settings

When I did this I could see a string of IP addresses reported by pocketWinC and some really messed up hex string .

finally 1 could only CLear this 127.0.0.0 loopback IP With a hard reset (Something I was afraid to do-. but it all woroked ok hav ing made a backup first )

then I started again With all the settings and now I can surf, Collect mail and skype from both home and work!

There are no wep keys on my wifi anymore as it just won't work with wep keys enabled but I have mac filtered the networks.

thanks to all who helped out
