Best setup for Audio/Video on 4700 ?
As for the audio, I've chosen Pocket Music Bundle. I hope I made a right choice.

As for the video, what application do you recommend ?

And I would like to know what is the best setting when converting movies (DVDs, DivX, etc.) to be watched on 4700(I have 1GB CF card that will serve me as audio/video storage):
1. What format should I convert to ?
2. What screen size (640x480 or 320x240 or some other widescreen perhaps) ?
3. With what program ?
4. What settings ?
5. etc...

I would like to have best picture possible on my 4700.

Thanks in advance !

For video I can really recommend Betaplayer. http://betaplayer.corecodec.org/ It supports full VGA resolution. For converting movies follow the tutorial http://www.aximsite.com/articles/link.php?id=215.

I hope this helps you.

Easy- For video, I use Betaplayer and for Music, I use the new PocketMusic Bundle 3.2 that supports Real VGA. You can record Movies with another program in either 640x480 or 320x240. I choose the latter because 640x480 takes up to much memory and I still get a good picture at 320x240. It is up to you though, if you have lots of CF space, then go for it.

Hi, I am considering buying a 4700 mainly for video viewing, but also for music, eBooks, dictionaries etc. I know a lot about avi and divx on the XP platform, but need some help to understand the limitations on a PDA.

Is 640x480 (for VGA compatible models like 4700) the maximum resolution that can be played? A lot of my movies that I keep on my HTPC are 720 wide and would need to be rescaled. This is something that happens automatically on a PC if you want to se the movie in a reduced size window. Will a player like BetaPlayer play a movie that is e.g. 720x576 in resolution? I am talking about movies that are already avi-files, I am converting them from DVD to Divx with Gordian Knot.

My next question conserns audio. Most of my divx movies have the original sound, that is AC3 or 5.1 surround sound. Does BetaPlayer or any other player support AC3? Or do I have to convert to mp3 or wma?

Last, I would appreciate info about the sound quality of the 4700. Is the audio quality (for same source file) as good as e.g. iPod or ZenMicro?

thanks!

I use BetaPlayer and it seemed to support other formats because some of mine were recorded in a lower resolution and it enlarged them fine. The quality was still great. You might look at the corecodec forums to see what they say. As for the sound, the audio doesn't have to be converted. The sound quality is great, but I have had some problems getting the voice to match the video when using Pocket DVD Studio.

Yes Betaplayer will resize 720 videos, and it should still play fine from a CF card, depending on the bitrate.

Betaplayer is def the best video player for the PPC, I'd also recommend using Pocket Divx Encoder (free prog, search for it on Google) if you want to shrink the size of movies down to fit on storage cards or reduce the bitrate so the movies can be streamed without stalling through wifi.
