backup program that will backup everything
Played with the 4700 last night at work,,,this afternoon found that my on/off button didnt work, then figured my battery was dead (maybe kept on constantly while in the case i carry it in), put in extra fully charged battery and hit the on/off button, the 4700 came on but in the original setup up mode.....everything was lost..........
spent a couple of hours reloading (no big deal since i keep all the software i bought on the desktop)......
So is there a backup program that will backup every every every everything, so i can restore without having to reload/re-install everything?
As always thanks for any advice.
Robert

I've used Sprite Backup (http://www.spritesoftware.com) to back up to a PC and to an SD card for just this reason. Complete restores work so far...

iPaq back-up is a 'basic' version of Sprite backup.

I use Sprite as it is a lot more customisable.

There are good discounts available to iPaq users on their website.

ok, trying iPack Backup now and getting this message:
"notifying Credant MObile Gaurdian Shield "
and its been on the screen for a long time??????
but furhter up on the screen it says that 9.99M of 9.99M has been copied....
so what's going on with the Credant Mobile Gaurdian???
my only option now is the 'cancel' button

Hmmm, I could be wrong, but I thought that the 4700 came with the full version. I keep my backup on a spare CF card using the advanced options and it looks identical to the screenshots of the premium edition of Sprite Backup.

You may be right - per the Sprite Website:

Quote:
Upgrade Options

1. Upgrading to Sprite Backup Personal Standard Edition

All HP iPAQ Pocket PC devices with iPAQ Backup pre-installed may upgrade to Sprite Backup Personal 3 Standard Edition for the discounted price of US$10. Sprite Backup Personal 3 Standard Edition is the latest version of our standard backup software for Pocket PC.

NOTE: If your HP iPAQ has Version 3 or later of iPAQ Backup installed, there is no need to upgrade to Sprite Backup Personal 3 Standard Edition as the pre-installed version is equivalent to Sprite Backup Personal 3 Standard Edition.

2 . Combined Version and Edition Upgrade to Sprite Backup Personal 3 Premium Version

All HP iPAQ Pocket PC devices with iPAQ Backup pre-installed may upgrade to Sprite Backup Personal 3 Premium Edition for the discounted price of US$15. Sprite Backup Personal 3 Premium Edition is the latest version of our award-winning comprehensive backup software for Pocket PC.

NOTE: If your HP iPAQ has Version 3 or later of iPAQ Backup installed, the upgrade to the Personal Premium version is a normal Edition Upgrade priced at US$10. See the Sprite Backup Upgrade Page here for more details.
So if the 4700 has version 3 then there is no need to update and you have a great back-up programme

(as an aside - it is a downloadable programme, and I have no idea (yet) what Credant Mobile Sheild is).

From a search:
Quote:
Credant Mobile Shield provides power-on PIN and password protection for mobile devices
So it is your password protection programme - either iPaqBack-up is having trouble closing this down to do the back-up or it is caused when Sprite automatically restarts after performing a back-up.

In the short term - turn your password protection off manually when doing a back-up, longer term you may get more joy posting this question on the Sprite website and see what they say

Don't know then -

I think your best bet is do a soft reset and see if it recurrs. If it does then post this error on the Sprite website.

Sorry I can't be more help.
