Have you set-up a sync schedule?

Have you set it up to check for mail every x minutes?

I've gone under programs/activsync/tools/options/ then i have 4 tabs 'pc' 'server' 'mobile schedule'
but can find no time functions under any of them

I'm thinking maybe just not activsync but:
a bad battery?
a program recently loaded like todaypanelpro

def. interesting

I think still it is your mail programme , but what other programmes have you loaded recently?

Any weather programmes?

Hello Robert

I too have noticed that my hx4700 also turns on sometimes after a few minutes of being switched off. This occurs when the unit is out of the cradle. I have mine set to switch off after three minutes of non use so this is not a problem becuae it swtiches off again. But a few weeks ago I had set this so the machine did not switch off after a time period. The result was a flat battery, flat backup battery and a machine that had done a hard reset!!

I do have Pocket Weather installed but my recollection is that the machine was switching on before this software was installed.

Hi there! I got an hx4700 for Xmas & I, too, have noticed that it turns on automatically.

Having tried various options/configurations I have narrowed it down to the fact that it turns itself on after 5 minutes, but only if connected to the mains (e.g. if I've plugged it in & left it recharging) - it makes no difference whether or not it's in its cradle, what 'causes' it to turn on is the mains connection.

I have not installed any extra programs (other than some games - well, what else am I supposed to do at work?!), so if it's a program causing it then it's one that's pre-loaded BUT... I have checked that there's no programs running, so my guess it's that it's a 'background' process causing this.

Hi sugar_cube and Praxis - Welcome to the site

The only reasons that your unit should turn on (assuming it is not in its cradle connected to your PC - as AS wakes the unit up) are:
- a scheduled communications event (such as checking for mail, trying to sync via wifi, another programme trying to sync - such as eWallet, a weather programme, RSS programme etc etc)
- an appointment/ task reminder
- an alarm (set under clock)
- a scheduled back-up (or an automatic back-up being instigated due to battery level).

EDIT - thanks to minnesotagerbers -
- another reason my be HP Protection Tools can you temporarily disable them and see if that helps.

I can't think of another reason for it to happen.

Sugar_cube - if it is annoying you then perform a full back-up and then perform a hard reset and see if it still occurs (it shouldn't). If it recurrs after your first sync - then it is ActiveSync causing it. You could then load your programmes and see which one causes it (of course you may decide to live with it )

May seem like a simple thing, but mine stopped turning on spontaneously when I turned the HP Protection tools OFF. While on, the 4705 seemed to come to life at the same intervals that it was set to lock the system.

Now that I turned it off, it hasn't happened since. (Did I just jinx myself?)

Hey, minnesotagerbers! Looks like you've done it! I, too, had the HP Protection Tools enabled - as soon as I turned it off my Ipaq decided to sit quietly without starting up on its own. Thanks for that!

P.S. Thanks for the welcome to the site, Rob1303. Why the flag? Is it because you're homesick? (ha!ha!) I'm from Aberhonddhu ('Brecon' to the pagans), so if you want news of home I'm your man!

minnesotagerbers - thanks for the information - I am going to go back and alter my earlier post about possible reasons for switching on (for future searches)

Sugar_Cube - as we were getting off topic I have split the thread and moved out Wales talk - HERE

Got mine for xmas with foldable keyboard. It switches on after a period, 5 mins-ish, in either the cradle or keyboard if externally powered.

My Psion3a has recently died - great shame. Are there any programming apps equiv to OPL for the 4700?

Should have read this one first - its only done it (I think) since I opted to use the encrypted protection features.

I found out last night that I had to turn off the encryption. After setting up some contacts - I put it away next to the bed. Then about 5 minutes later I thought a damn car pulled up in the driveway. The room was lit up. It was the 4700 turning on. So what do you do if it keeps turning on and off while useing the encrypted features? Is this a bug of some sort?
