Dictionaries in MS Reader
I've just got to grips with my 4700 but am still a novice sadly.Has anyone got any of the free dictionaries (French, Spanish, English) to work on Microsoft Reader when downloaded from the MS site? I've downloaded the latest version of MS Reader and activated it. I had troubles getting books to open when upgrading from my (cough) Cassiopeia but deleting the .ebo files sorted that. I deleted all the dictionaries, downloaded them again, but they still don't work. They didn't work on the cassiopeia either...am I doing something stupid? All help most gratefully received...

bluebadger. Welcome to the site. I use eReader more than MS Reader so I can't really help you here but wanted to welcome you anyway. There are a lot of MS Readers here and I'm sure they'll have you fixed up soon. Congrats on your 4700.

MS Reader supports .lit files I am not sure if it supports anything else, if you are looking to read books in a different format then you may need a different reader.

For MS Reader and .lit files, In theory all you need to do is copy the downloaded .lit file onto the 4700 either into main memory, file store or a storage card.

Load MS Reader and the book should be listed in the right hand pane (The Library) Simply click on the book (dictionary) you want to read then click on Go to\Begin Reading.

If you are still having difficulty post back.

bluebadger,

Welcome!

I use the Encarta dictionary with MS Reader. As I recall, they used to distribute it on the companion CD that came with PPCs (well, HP Jornada and Compaq/HP iPAQ anyway). If not, you should be able to download it for free from the MS website (http://www.microsoft.com/reader/down...ctionaries.asp). Just copy it to your My Documents folder in main memory or on your storage card. I created a My Library folder (i.e., Storage Card\My Documents\My Library) to hold all my ebooks in. Reader is pretty good about tracking them down for you but it makes them easier to manage.

Thanks for reply. I'm using .lit files only - they were also downloaded from the ms website. Everything else I downloaded works now but the dictionaries just lock up. Whatever button I press within MS Reader just freezes it. I can use the close button at the top of the screen to shut down MS Reader but have to stop the programme in settings. It's a real pain!! I guess I'll just have to forgo the dictionaries but they would be soooo useful abroad!

I had the same problem. See how to deactivate the "Double Pixeling" feature in WM2003 SE in individual programs here.http://www.pc-counselor.com/how_to/i...doublepixeling

Thanks again for help - this looks as though it might be a bit complicated for me sadly, and, maybe, as the other books work, it might be best left alone. We'll see.
