Apani / Nortel Contivity VPN Client on 4700?
Has anybody successfully run the Apani Nortel Contivity Client on the hx4700?

I installed the sw today as I'm trying to connect to my company's Contivity network via VPN. However, whereas I used to see the wireless network in the WiFi Settings screen and get a green WiFi button, now all I get is the Configure Network Adaptors screen and I'm always just left with an amber WiFi button.

Once I start the Contivity VPN Client sw, I can configure things but when I try to connect I just get a Negotiation Requested sign and after 3 tries a message stating "Login requested but not completed ... please try again."

I suspect my problem is that I don't have a Green WiFi button/connection established in the first place and thus the Contivity sw has nothing to login onto!
Thanks in advance for your help,
Gary

Following up from my message yesterday, after a hard reset and a Apani sw reinstall, I have gotten it to work successfully and I can connect to my work's wireless network. I think I may have had some remnants of the Movian client still in the system prior to my hard reset which was conflicting with the Apani.

The odd behaviour now though is that if I turn off my physical WiFi connection, and then try to reconnect my hx4700 can never find a wireless network connection again. It only seems to work the first time and as long as everything is left on. After turning off the physical WiFi connection I have to either perform a soft reset (always seems to work), or turn the power on/off on the hx4700 itself (only works sometimes) for things to connect again.

Note that prior to installing the Apani sw, I could always turn my WiFi on/off and it would always reconnect to the network once I turned it back on again. I never had to soft reset or power cycle the device to regain the connection.

Any suggestions out there would be most appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help,
Gary

Hi Gary - welcome to the site

Thanks for the update on your VPN issue.

Hopefully another 4700 user can now help with the wifi issue.

If no one answers you question in a couple of days - post a new thread with the issue.

I do have the same kind of problem both mo my old 4150 and the 4700. It seems to me a combination of the IPAQ technology and Apani's VPN.

I did have a discussion with tech support at Apani and was VERY disappointed; Their answer was " We do not have 4150s and 4700s and cannot test this problem'.

Folks,
An update for you ..... I have successfully been able to use the Certicom Movian VPN Client (v4.01) with my HP hx4700!!! I get none of the WiFi shut off/turn on problems that I had with the Apani sw.
I'll continue my testing with the Movian sw but so far it looks good .......
Cheers,
Gary

Continued testing with Movian 4.01 and my hx4700 is going well so far. I can connect to my work's network wirelessly with my hx4700, both when I'm at work, and when I'm at home with my own home wireless network.

So far I haven't had any strange behaviour with the hx4700.

For reference sake, Movian is now available from:

Cheers,
Gary
