AirPort Express --> HX4700
Hi, just wondering if I'd be able to stream movie files (rmvb) from my desktop to my hx4700 (using the Airport Express)?

Is 802.11b fast enough for rmvb files?

Thanks.

.rmvb files are just Real video files (same as .rm).

The base-range is from the study to around the house (within ~10-15metres radius).

Is this possible? And do u know if streaming video files (any format) is viable with this setup?

thx again.

I can stream .avi files onto my 2210 (using a CF .b card) without any problems - so it should be possible.

I have a Netgear 624 108mb Wifi router which claims 10x speed and 4x range of a .b network - no idea if that is true nut I can walk more than 50meters down the road and still stream video no problem.

As to battery life - as I am at home it is never an issue.

I use Betaplayer to stream the movie onto my device, after first sharing the relevant folder on my PC.

Sorry for butting in, but are you saying that if I had a dvd in my laptop and I connected via my hx4700 over wifi that I could watch it?

I hope I'm right in thinking that, That would be so cool if its possible.

Should work just fine - I have my LG DVD +/-/RAM/DL drive on the desktop shared over my WiFi network and use it with both my Centrino laptop and HX4700......for both streaming/sharing files and as a file store !!

Sorry for the confusion - don't actually watch a regular DVD this way but can use the drive for accessing whatever suitable files are on there....case in point, I have a DVD compiled of loads of encoded PPC movies (320x240 for most part) and can view these over the wireless network......would be great to have direct access to regular DVDs (and .VOB files) though, although this sort of data transfer rate would doubtless be right on the limits of the 802.11b link limits.......

I guess my point is that sharing an optical drive is really quite uesful for a variety of reasons, not least with DVD-RAM as you can use it as a 'drag-and-drop' style storage area too !!
