Sending POP email
Sending POP email

Have two POP3 accounts. One set up and works. The second is set up with the correct setting (confirmed with provider) but yet when doing a Send / Receive, it receives just fine but will not send any emails on that account.

Message is: The message(s) could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. Try sending again".

Since it is receiving message I assume that my WiFi is working. Actually, tried with home wireless and the one at work with the same result. For giggles I check and unchecked every option possible at least once. No luck.

Any thoughts out there?

Yes... it depends on your ISP and how they feel about accessing other SMTP servers.
For example, if you use Wanadoo you can send mail through smtp.wanadoo.co.uk BUT if you connect via another provider the wanadoo SMTP server WILL NOT let you send mails.

This is done to avoid people faking mail addresses to send spam untrace-ably.

Sooo... if you have multiple accounts you can only send through the one you are connected to. Receive is fine 'cos POP doesn't have this problem.

Hope this helps!!

True, but I can do all with my laptop from my home WiFi, work or dial up so I do not think it has anything to do with the ISP. Using the very same settings on my laptop and all is good.

Are u sure that when u try sending from second address it uses the coresponding smtp server/settings and not the 1st's?
This is the address u entered/set second, isn't it?
Try telnet-ing ur smtp account that doesn't work and see if its a matter of privileges or wrong settings.
If u dont have a telnet app. on ur ipaq try ftp://ftp.cam.com/cambridge/win/vxHpc.zip (30 day free eval.)
Good luck.

P.S.: U can also sniff or check on ur server <what's 'appenin'>, addresses/ports opened, etc.

Yes, very sure. The Pocket PC Account set up is about as easy as they come. Maybe too easy with little config allow?

If you haven't already, try setting the "Outgoing email server requires authentication' (on the third page of Options from the fourth page of the account settings)

Here is they reply from the ISP hosting our POP3 account:

"I have tested the SMTP server for your account and verified that it is responding normally. Also, your SMTP server does not require any additional or special settings in order to communicate with various devices. These devices should have the protocols available in order to transmit information over the TCP/IP port 25.

I have reviewed the original configuration settings you provided for us and based upon that information you should be able to establish a connection to the sending mail server. We only have the ability to test and ensure that our servers are responding normally, if you are having difficulties establishing a connection to your SMTP server for your Pocket PC we will be unable to assist you with this matter"

I did not try another email client because I am determined to make this work!

Does anybody know if port 25 is open on the PPC? I do not see a setting for it.
