iPAQ Connection to Bluetooth Phone for Internet Access
Hello. This is my first post.

Im new to the world of pda and have just bought the Ipaq 4700 3 days ago.

I am trying to connect it to my bluetooth nokia 7610 phone to use the gprs to access internet. I can get the phone to dial the gprs by putting *99~ in the setting on the pda. But it it will not authenticate and keep on getting error.

I am trying to get it to connect with my Orange UK and 02 UK phones. It asks for username and password. If anyone has got this to succesfuly to work I would appriciate it a lot if anyone could help please.

Thank you.

Hi,

Once your BT software 'dials' the *99#, the phone should then begin accessing it's GPRS connection - when it asks for id/password (probably will only happen first time) I have always just left all fields blank but selected a "Save Password" field.....since then - with my HX4700 and Nokia 6600 - I have always found the connection automatic and reliable.....

I assume, however, that you have already taken the time to set up a pairing between your 'phone and the iPaq ? If not, this is the first port of call as it will automatically authenticate all future connections between the two devices.....

Do you know which GPRS settings you used on your O2 phone. Was it O2 GPRS WAP or do you have to select something different.

All the 'Auto-Detect' stuff is done in BT Phone Manager on my HX4700....open the program and click the settings icon (looks like a spanner) and then just work through the various selections (Communication Settings, Network Operator, & Internet Connection - I am pretty sure that a wizard of sorts took me through them initially.......

is it possible for you to check what username and password you enter on the pda. It connects but wont authorise and hangs up.

If this is the case, perhaps it would be a good idea to start all over again.....

Delete the phone partnership from both your phone and PDA
Reset all settings/Delete settings in BT Phone manager

Start all over......generally speaking, you do not need a password etc. to access the GPRS system - for my connection, I left all fields blank, but checked the 'Save' box.....

I myself am going batty trying to get my combo to work. One of my problems of course is the age old problem of one entity telling me to go to the other to finish the solution.

Cingular wants to send me to HP and HP wants to send me back to Cingular. Big headache!

Sorry I'm a bit late in the day but did you get this working? If not, the information you need is the following:

Network: Orange (UK)
Number: *99#
User name: <blank>
Password : <blank>
Baud: 115200
Wait for tone: No
Commands: +cgdcont=1,"ip","orangeinternet"

Network: Vodafone (UK)
Number: *99#
User name: web
Password : web
Baud: 115200
Wait for tone: No
Commands: +cgdcont=1,"ip","internet"

I haven't got the O2 details to hand but I've got them somewhere if you need them.

HTH

make sure that you are dialing the right account. Number 1 at "*99***1#" indicates the CID number of the data account which is different in every phone. You might know this already but just in case... (* and # signs might be different too.)

Another thing is Bluetooth phone manager is not very practical to use according to me. I use a shortcut in bluetooth manager to connect. (created by using `connect to internet via phone` option in the manager.) It is faster this way.

I use a Sonyricsson phone with tmobile therefore i cant help you on the settings. Sorry.
