IPAQ 4700 Broken Screen
Help!!! Has anyone else had to have a screen replaced on their 4700? Accidents happen and one happened to me yesterday. Would like some feedback on who may be the best to get the parts from or who can do the best job most inexpensively (not always the cheapest!)

Sorry to hear. What happened?

PPCTechs.com does a good job. Though I don't see the 4700 on their list of PPCs they currently can repair. You might try getting in touch with them to see if they can help you.

Hope everything works out for ya!

I emailed PPCTechs about 2 weeks ago about repairing my iPAQ's messed up audio, they never replied to me so I assume they can't do repairs on hx4705's right now.. doh!

I'm really not exactly sure what happened. I had it in my shirt pocket walking through some pines (I know, whadda' ya' dooing in da' woods wid dat ting, anyway? DUH!) and I think a broken limb climbed in my pocket and inserted itself under the extemely secure cover that comes with the unit! I disliked the cover before, but I really, really don't like it now!! Bottom line, I was using it while Geocaching, exposing it to risks far beyond justified for a unit this expensive!!

I did talk to an HP rep at CompUSA this afternoon (after I posted the Help notice). His recommendation was just to buy another one! I thought that was just real special coming from an HP guy! BTW, CompUSA is listed as a repair agency for IPAQ's. The tech I spoke to really didn't want to do anything other than warrantee repairs and only said, "Send it to HP!" He refused to even give any suggestions of even how to get in touch with them (I know how, but that wasn't the point). He wasn't impressed at all when I told him that HP had sent me to them as one of their repair facilities.

I hate to retire it after using it for only a couple of months. BTW, broken screens are NOT covered by service plans!

Not necessarily. Some of their plans cover "accidental" damage. The Manufacturer's warrantee or a standard "Extended plan" do NOT, however.

The cusa rep said my plan covers "everything" except a lost unit for two years. The documentation that came with it backs up that claim. I simply call the number, file a claim, and bring it back to cusa for a new one. Hope I never have to test that.

Had a reply from the HP Tech Support in E-Mail this AM. Estimated cost to replace the screen is around $250-260. Much less than I thought it would be but still a big bite for an accident ! Cheaper than settling for a lesser machine. Haven't heard from the other agency yet. Will keep posted on the 'haps'.

Sounds like the good policy that you got! Not all cover like that.
