IPAQ HX4700 Query?
Hi Everyone,
This is my first post and the HX4700 is the first PDA that I have owned (used even), I've have been waiting for the 480x640 res.

Well I have read many posts on here now and beive that I have the wifi issue many have reported. I have tested the hx4700test.exe file on it and it fails.
I recived this from HP online 3 days ago. I'm going to call the support number on monday (as they are not opened on the weekend in Australia).

But I have another issue that I am wondering if its me or the IPAQ that I would like some feed back on.
I am having trouble installing a large range of PocketPC software.

include in this list:
vxUtil and the other apps from the cambridge site.
betaplayer
IPmgr.exe
Tweaks2k2NETv300
even had issues with software from the micro$oft site for pocket pc.

the only things the have run sucessfully are a couple of themes, myipconfig.exe and se_vga.exe.

the hx4700test.exe fails... there are fixes for it avail... lots of software packages will fix it.. do a search there is a thread about it and someone made a script/executable that fixes it also.

how does the software installation fail?

P.S Welcome to the site.. im fairly new too ppl here are nice and have lots of patience its good stuff.

P.P.S if you dont have much on it.. do a hard reset.. see if that solves the installation problems.. im not sure how or what the problem is yet though.

Welcome to the site.

In my MyPDA (linked on the left) there is a tutorial on how to install, run and uinstall programmes

Also check out the "What can I do with my PPC" one - really (really) useful for new and old PPC users alike.

squidhed. The failrure of that test alone, shouldn't be a reason to return your device. Mine failed it and I ran the fix (from the same thread as you found the test). It is a "simple" registry edit, not a hardware or true software problem. The only thing to remeber is if you do a hard reset you will have to run the fix again because the registry entry is in ROM and will rewrite when you do the hard reset.

I can't speak to the Cambridge software or IPmgr., but I run betaplayer (actually installs the same registry fix that is in the fix for the hx4700test) and tweaks2k2 with no problems.

Take a look at the tutorials rob1303 mentions and tell us what "issues" you are having. If you can give us more details, maybe we can help some more.

Thanks for the feedback I have sorted out the issue with installation of programs thanks for the directions to your help section rob1303.

Have not done the registry fix as suggested by swhoutx035 as not sure how to go about it. But learning each day.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Just another welcome to the site
I was a bit overwhelmed at first and with much to learn but the members here 'held my hand' and walked me through some problems.
As far as the 'fix', I just loaded Betaplayer

Hi sqidhed, Medicineman is correct. If you install betaplayer (now that you have your istallation worries resolved), it makes the same correction to the registry and you get a great free mediaplayer.
