[quote=Raiderhp4700]As I promised I would outline these steps a little clearer and a bit more precise. THEY WORK ! knowing how we have to scrounge for ever single meg on the 4700, a gain of 4 to 6 should be very much appreciated by
by all who had little left, or just want to start clean with more.
--------------------
Boot Memory Increase steps. 4700
1. Hard Reset
2. Delete Unused Pics in My PICTURES folder ( I left canoe in)
3. Delete Help Folder (or move it to ipaq store folder, your choice)
4. Move Icons from "Start" Folder (this step might depend on what you use, I don't use blootooth so moving it is no big deal. I have noticed that Blootooth does not start up after moving its icon (to the fonts folder, but you can always move it back if needed and do soft reset) but that doesn't bother me, along with the others ive moved, which are dbmirror, poutlook, cwtimeout and tasks. I have experienced no probs doing this but I don't do outlook on it either..so if you do..that one might have to stay.. its simple..if you move one and something doesn't work..just put it back.
5. Reinstalled any and all programs into IPAQ FILE STORE,
6. Went thru and moved or deleted any thing from windows that wasn't needed
( usually after hard reset..just whacking the help folder is all that's needed)
NOW DO A SOFT RESET
NOW DO A MEMORY SLIDER ADUSTMENT TO THE LEFT
I GET 42 MB AVAILABLE FOR RUNNING PROGRAMS.
NOW AFTER INSTALLING A LOT OF PGMS, THIS WILL PROBABLY GO DOWN TO 40..
your particular unit may show a little more or less.. but you will see good gains. good luck[/QUOTE
I was able to end up with 41 MB available, but still have to mess with the slider after soft resets.
