Just bought a hx4700
Hey guys im new to these forums. I started out with a axim x3i and had it for a few days and sold it and made 100 dollars. I wanted something bigger and better so i was considering the x50v or the hx4700 after doing my hw i figured out that the hx4700 was the best handheld in the world. To the point, i got a hx4700 from a friend for 450 with all the accessories. Is that a good price? Is there anything i should do or know about this great handheld? How can i transfer the warranty from him to me? Thanks guys

Hi nyyankees3511. Welcome to the forum. I don't know what used 4700's are going for but it would seem an OK price. As far as transfering the warranty, I don't know that it can be transfered. You would have to check with HP or the place that sold the ipaq to your friend, if he bought a warranty from them. You can take a look at my View MyPDA section for more info about programs and accessories and such that I use. Enjoy your 4700.

Welcome to the world of HX4700, nyyankees3511!

A 'good price' is one where both parties are happy with the deal, so if you're happy then the price is good!

AS for progs, utilities etc, as swhoutx035 said, look at people's 'My PDA' for ideas about what you can do with your new 'toy' (but don't look at mine as I'm still building it ).

Most of all, enjoy your IPaq & if you find any good stuff then don't be afraid to share it with us!

Hi nyyankees3511. HP might have different warranty rules/stipulations than Dell, but you would have to check with HP to find out.

Hi AND WELCOME TO THE 4700 OWNERS GROUP..
you will find that its capable of most anything a laptop is capable of.. and then some,
you cant stick a laptop in your shirt pocket...
your warranty shouldnt be an issue if the gent you got it from didnt register the 4700 with hp... you would go ahead and register it as if you bought it new...if he did
register it..you will have to work with hp on that.. the way to tell is try and register it online for warranty.. if it goes thru.. your all set. Yes you got an excellent price for it.. admittedly they are a bit overpriced to start out.. they really should have been $75 to $100 less.. Ive seen where you can buy them retail for about $560 new now and then online.. Id say that one in excellent condition no matter its age is going to be worth $500 easy... untill the retail prices drop to that... its such a successfull item that prices may never drop that low..as hp upgrades new units coming out... unless they do something stupid like dump the model line for a new design they are going to have to upgrade to "N" wireless, more Ram, and add a docking station to the accessorie lineup... having to drop it into your pc to print, network, keyboard, large monitor..ect ect
is rediclous considering the capabilities of this unit to have to rely on a pc connection.....

Hi nyyankees3511. There aren't any ROM or OS updates/patches out yet for the 4700, so you really shouldn't need any device upgrades. I chose to upgrade the RAM on my device because of heavy use of several RAM intensive programs, but if you're willing to agressively manage your memory usage, you probably don't need to upgrade. As far as accessories and other applications, they are myriad. Check out my View MyPDA section for apps and accessories I use.
