Hi Wayne, welcome to the site!

By default ActiveSync synchronises the folder that is (optionally) created when you create the AS partnership (usually called
<device name> My Documents in the desktop's My Documents folder) with the My Documents folder on the device. You can add / remove files to / from the synchronisation list but I'm afraid that AFAIK there's no straightforward way to change the location on the device (although this is almost certainly possible by modifying the registry).
So, the short answer is put the files on the SD card manually and just put the ones you want to sync that you change frequently in the special device specific My Documents folder.
