I'm not sure I understand your question, but heres a little bit about SD cards. I assume when you say "would a 512 secure digital card help the pc itself? Would it make it faster?" you mean the Pocket PC, not your desktop/laptop or whatever you use to sync and install software to your PPC from, yes?

Anyway, an SD card will not really speed up your Pocket PC. At least not directly. It WILL provide more storage space (in addition to built in main memory and the iPAQ File Store (another area of internal memory that is not affected by hard resets)). Using the iPAQ File Store and storage cards for any programs that can run well from those areas helps keep the main memory of the device relatively uncluttered. The more uncluttered it is, the smoother it runs. Also, keeping main memory open gives you the opportunity to adjust how that memory is used in your device (using the Memory Control Panel app). You can slide the adjuster for memory to provide less space for storage and more space for programs to run in. THIS does, IMO, speed up the PPC. By default, most PPCs allocate half of the main memory to storage and the other half to program run memory. Unless you've had a memory upgrade done, in most PPCs this means of the 64MB main memory, 32 goes to storage and 32 goes to programs running. If you are like most PPC users, you probably run at least 1 or 2 Today screen plugins at all times (personally I run Dashboard and Wisbar Advanced at all times) which will immediately drain some of that available program memory. The less you have, the less you can run and the slower things seem to be. I allocated only as much main memory to storage as windows mobile will let me (when you adjust the slider to the left, giving more to programs and less to storage, WM has a funny habit of kicking it back to the middle if you take away too much of the available free storage. I've found you have to leave somewhere in the vicinity of 6-8MB of free space allocated to storage to keep WM from automatically readjusting to a perfect balance between storage and program memory space). I am using about 4MB of main memory for storage (this is where Dashboard and Wisbar are installed because they just run better from there and cause fewer problems which is typical of many Today Screen plugins - they like to be installed in main memory to run well it seems) and I keep another 7MB or so (for a total of 11MB) allocated to storage, the rest goes to programs. This seems to keep things running well for me. Apps run quickly, videos play smoothly, everything just seems to work pretty well. Still, I do wish I could have even more memory free for programs to run in, but at the moment I don't want to pay the $200 and be without my PPC for a while to get a memory upgrade installed.

Of course, all of that said, your mileage may vary, but I hope that helps you understand a bit about memory usage on your new device. BTW, is it a 4700/4705? If so, you bought yourself a nice little machine, I love mine.

Hi, like Quorlan says, definately go for the SD card as you will need it to install programs, music files, movie files etc.. I use NuShield screen protectors and they are awesome. You can get them here: http://www.nushield.com/products_main_hp-ipaq.htm

I am assuming that it is in US funds, but yeah, that is a good price. I personally find that 512mb is a little small, but then again, I have a ton of mp3's. I use the Ipaq File Store for all my programs and the flash cards for documents, maps, mp3's and movies.

Yeah, $30 is a good price for a 512MB SD card. As for screen protection, I currently use WriteShield screen protectors from Pocket PC Techs (the same guys who do the internal memory upgrades for all kinds of Pocket PCs) http://www.pocketpctechs.com/ws.asp

In the past I've used Clear Touch screen protectors from BoxWave and found them to be very nice as well. http://www.boxwave.com/products/cate...protectors.htm

The only thing to keep in mind with screen protection really seems to be "You get what you pay for". Cheap screen protectors are just that, CHEAP. They scratch, tear, don't apply smoothly, bubble and just look bad. The expensive ones, no matter which brand really, all seem to be pretty good. Just be warned, applying even a good high quality screen protector should be a MAJOR priority and it is NOT the simplest thing to apply. If you aren't careful you wind up with dust or other particles beneath the protector which cause bubbles and spots on the screen. Personally, I hate having to apply a new one cuz I'm not happy til it's perfect which always seems to take me about 10 attempts to get right.

Thanks Quorlan, for the information on the Memory usage. It puts in prospective that you have to tweak the PDA for optomal speed.
