The Ultimate PPC Media/Resource Management Software?
Okay, I've had this idea kicking around for quite some time now (basically since I started reading eBooks on a handheld device back when I used an original Palm Pilot!) and basically just wanted to bring it up for discussion and see if anyone else has ever heard of such a thing.

Essentially what I'd like to have is some type of software that allows me to catalog and categorize all of the different types of media I use on my PPC (things like eBooks, movies, tv shows, word documents, installable software, etc). I was thinking maybe something that contained it's own little web server engine so that if you wanted to, you could run it on a PC and have access to your own library of PPC media from anywhere you have Internet access with your PPC. I'd also like to see if tied to ActiveSync as well so you could mark items within the desktop cataloger interface for transfer to your PPC on next sync.

I think software like this could have some amazing applications besides just being great for those of us with large collections of ebooks, converted DVDs, mp3s, documents, etc. It could be implemented in schools for allowing the electronic checkout of ebooks, distribution of assignment materials, or any number of other possibilities (yes, this would rely on the school in question having the budget to move toward a more electronically based system of material distribution, but things are slowly moving in that direction now).

I think there are some interesting ideas here but I doubt anything like this really already exists. Unfortunately, even though I am a web developer, I know practically nothing about actual application development to be able to even contemplate building a software package like this.

So has anyone else ever thought about things like this? Think something like this is a good idea? Know a few programmer types who love Pocket PCs and a challenge who might want to try to build it? I'm basically just looking for some discussion of the idea. Who knows, maybe I'm the only one who thinks this would be something great?
