hx4700 vs. hx4705
I was just doing some research about the two different models. I remeber a post earlier regarding the differences between the two, but didn't it spelled out as clearly as this:

hx4705
Newegg HP iPAQ HX4705 Pocket PC 624 MHz, 192MB, 4" TFT, Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003

Software Included:
Quote:
Bluetooth Manager
HP Mobile Printing: print to network and Bluetooth printers without any additional software.
HP ProtectTools powered by Credant
iTask Task Switcher
iPAQ Wireless: utility to manage wireless connections
iPAQ File Store: non-volatile storage in Flash ROM
iPAQ Backup: utility for Backup/Restore to Main Memory, Memory Card or iPAQ File Store
HP Image Zone for Pocket PC: application to view and print pictures and create slide shows
Utilities: Self Test, iPAQ Audio, Power Status
hx4700
Newegg HP iPAQ hx4700 Pocket PC series 624MHz, 4.0" 480 x 640 TFT, 192MB - Retail

Software Included:
Quote:
Pocket versions of Microsoft software (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer for Pocket PC).

Windows Mobile 2003 software (Premium Edition),
Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Voice Recorder,
Notes, Pocket Word, Pocket Excel,
Pocket Internet Explorer,
Windows Media Player 9 (MP3, audio and video streaming),
Calculator, Solitaire, Jawbreaker, Inbox, File Explorer,
Pictures, Terminal Services Client,
VPN Client, Infrared Beaming, Clock, Align Screen,
Memory, Volume control, ClearType Tuner.

HP Exclusive: Bluetooth Manager, HP Mobile Printing, HP ProtectTools
powered by Credant, iTask Task Switcher, iPAQ Wireless, iPAQ File Store,
iPAQ Backup, HP Image Zone, Utilities: Self Test, iPAQ Audio, Power Status.
The only other difference I saw between the two was that the hx4700 had this under Headphone/Headset jack:
3.5 mm stereo headphone/headset jack
5-band equalizer for playback through audio jack --> hx4705 did NOT have this

Now, I can't say that what they entered in their site is 100% accurate, but I've been fairly happy with Newegg in the past. (Don't order from them anymore because they started charging Tax for Tennessee residents... )

Ok. So I remember someone saying that the hx4700 was the Corporate model, and the hx4705 was the Home version.

I hope this sheds some light on the differences, AND if ANYBODY has anything to add, PLEASE DO SO.

They're missing the PocketInformant PIM that's on the hx4700 (not positive about the 05)

If HP continued the same number convention as they did with my 2210/2215, it stands to reason that one is the corporate version and the other is the commercial version. With mine, that was the only difference.

The biggest deal is the Pocket versions of the Office programs. That's completly missing off the hx4705.

Kind of important to me anyway.

4705 vs 4700
I've got a 4705, bought retail at CompUSA, and it has all of the features listed for the 4700. The 4705 is just the retail version of the 4700, IIRC

BTW, CompUSA has a great price on the 4705 right now, $584.99.

Yup, my 4705 has all the things listed for the 4700 also.

Mine as well. I have the box in my hand; there's a sticker that clearly says 4705. Mine has all the stuff that is described for the 4700 above, even the 5 band equalizer.

I recall running into a similar issue with my Axim X5 where there was a difference in part numbers for the same piece of equipment. I came down to retail sales vs corporate sales.

Cheers,

Tom

Just to confuse the matter further, as far as I can tell here in the UK we can only obtain the 4700. I have yet to see the 4705 listed as an option.

That's not true - it certainly wasn't a difference between the 2210 and 2215 and according to the HP website specs for the 4705:
Quote:
...
Pocket versions of Microsoft software are included (Outlook, Word, Excel and Internet Explorer for Pocket PC.
...
My understanding with these 0/5 models is that the only differences are with some of the 'extras' provided on the CDs. The 0's are typically for the business market and, as discovered by AshleyJ, are the versions that are sold overseas, making the 5's primarily sold through the retail market for home use in North America.

My 4700 came in a brown cardboard box, while the 4705's I've seen in the store were in pretty display packaging to attract buyers. I suspect that is what txulrich meant.

The equalizer is in software -- there are no mechanical controls for it. I believe that the reason the equalizer is blocked with the speaker is that the sound is somewhat tinny (like all PDA speakers) and equalizer settings might make it hard to hear anything

'05 vs '00
Thanks for the great info. I've spent some time looking for this for a couple of months, now, and went with the 4700. Very pleased; upgraded from 3700 with double-PCMCIA slots; approx. size of 2X4 block. My only wish is that the memory was at least 128, not 80MB. Time to save the pennies and play the lottery and send them both off to the hot-rod guys for speed and mem upgrades.

IPAQ 4700/both size batteries/WisBar/PocketPlus/SPB Weather/Juni's Stuff(!)/lots of MSN Reader books(touchpad works ok for this, but not games), WiFi is very nice around home-office/Innotec Hard Case(!)/NuShield Screen Protectors(!)/Overall: 8.5 of 10 :approve Great site here.

Well CRAP! Here I thought I'd figured it out.

Oh well. Either way The best price I've seen on the hx4700/5 is $534.00 to my door. (No tax, free shipping) (4.5 out of 5 stars, 10831 reviews)

Price Grabber hx4705

Price Grabber hx4700

Do that research.

Checked again, and it's a $533.95. It's a price war. Buydig wants to stay on top.

Yes I have. They said the 4700 is the series (and the box says that too)and the 4705 is the model number. I have the model 4705 and it has all the office software and Pocket informant too. There is no difference. Look on your box. You may think you have a 4700 but on the side of the box it says model 4705

Not in the UK! As I said before we seem to get the 4700 only.
I am looking at the box now and there is no mention of 4705 anywhere, the label states - i PAQ hx4700 WLAN, 128/64MB, UK and it does not list the software included but rather:
*Includes a variety of productivity, security and mobility applications.
