Can't wait to hear your review My Ratoc CF USB 1.1 Host adapter suffers from a lack of drivers for a few things (like an usb gamepad). I'd also be interested in your adapters performance with an ipod used as a disk drive.

Sorry for sounding dumb, but what is the point of that for the ipaq. I mean, if you are able to plug a USB device into the 4700, you still have to have the driver for it to make it work in the hx4700, and those are not available

good question, the point of it is that you can't plug most devices into the 4700 because the 4700 has no INTERNAL "user available" HOST adapter, which is what devices need if they are u.s.b. voltage powered, (5vdc) ..... THE 4700 does have a
host usb adapter built into it but its internal use only for the wifi chip, SO THE 4700 IS "USB CLIENT" ONLY AT THIS TIME, which means it can plug itself into a HOST somewhere else..like your pc... or maby run a stupid keyboard or mouse maby...thats about it... NOW..when you add the SD USB HOST ADAPTER... you give the 4700 the ablity to run functions from external devices..well...like maby a usb hdd, or camera or something... it would be like plugging those devices into your pc.. small keychain usb drives come to mind as well....THE FIRST THING THIS ADAPTER DOES IS MOVE THE 4700 ANOTHER NOTCH TOWARDS DOING MOST ANYTHING A LAPTOP CAN DO. AND THEIR ARENT TOO MANY NOTCHES LEFT TO KNOCK DOWN... now.. to address your driver issue... for most common devices... WINDOWS MOBILE 2003 WILL HANDLE THEM WITH STD MICROSOFT DRIVERS JUST LIKE YOUR PC DOES...YOU MAY THINK 2003 MOBILE LOOKS PRETTY SKIMPY...BUT IVE SEEN THE PROOF FROM MICROSOFT ENGINEERING THAT ITS GOT A HEMI UNDER THE HOOD...Win Mob. 2003 is as powerful under the hood as XP..because it starts with WINDOWS CE 4.0 which is the equavalent of windows ME... AND THEN THEY INTEGRAGED XP UPGRADES ONTO IT..
FOR WIFI..FOR LAN..FOR SYNC..FOR SECURITY, FOR USB..THE WHOLE WORKS.. I cant explain why they made it so user friendly with an interface that would only challenge a 2nd grader...but none the less...behind the scenes and under the hood WIN MOBILE 2003 is very powerfull.... WIN MOB 2005 IS TO BE RELEASED JUNE 9, THIS YEAR... ( I HAVE AN INSIDE SOURCE THAT SAYS THAT THE TARGET DATE) ....
I know that there are some companies that have made agreements with microsoft over their pda and ppc for giving the enduser the upgrade to 05 for $10, those companys are called microsoft integrated partnerships, and its a totally voluntary thing to have joined in on it..I dont know if there is a way to find out if HP IS..OR NOT..guess we will have to wait and see.... BUT I DO KNOW ONE THING... ITS TIME SOMEONE HERE FIGURED OUT HOW TO FLASH THE ROM ON THE 4700.. BECAUSE I PLAN ON GETTING AHOLD OF WIN2005 MOBILE .

4700-specific? Availability?
Hi Raiderhp4700, do you know if this device is intended as a 4700 specific accessory, or should I be able to use it on my 4150?

Any indication as to when it will be available?

Thank you!
Nick.
