HX4700 auto-scrolling
G'day guys,
I bought my ipaq hx4700 from a business in Melbourne, Australia.
The HXtest.exe app runs fine on mine, so I know that it's an "OK" unit.
A problem that I have is that when using some apps, it starts to auto-scroll.
Without me even touching anything !
I do a soft reset and the problem goes away for a while, but eventually returns.
It does it when reviewing documents in pocket word, when looking at offline content in avantgo, surfing the net, etc etc
It's very frustrating and I'm worried that it may do something during this auto-scrolling, when I go back to the today screen and then select the memory option and then stop all apps, and then restart pocketexcel, for example, it continues to auto-scroll.
Like i mentioned previously, when I soft-reset, it's fine for a while, and then recommences with a mind of it's own.
This is under normal operation, or while surfing via WLAN; it doens't seem to matter.
It's not auto-resetting
Wireless and BT both work fine
Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Buddha

Under Settings / Synaptics Navpoint, the sensitivity may be set really low. Try cranking it up to heavy touch.

If that doesn't fix it, have you considered a bad "down" key? It may be shorted or otherwise defective.

While you are trying adjustments to Synaptics change the mode to cursor and check the cursor for erratic behavior.

auto-scrolling "bug"
Thanks guys.
I have adjusted the synaptics sensitivity and will test it out tonight.

Doing a hard reset seems to have minimised the problem.
Should I be lokoing into expending the onboard memory?
I have read elsewhere on this site that some individuals are doing this, although i must admit to not having done enough research into it as yet.

Apart from all this, and as an ex-Palm Vx/M505 user, I'm finding the iPaq hx4700 is a great unit.

Cheers,
Buddha

More memory is always a good thing. I plan on upgrading when I have the spare cash. For me I need to be "memory conscience" when using BT and trying to print large documents. Anytime I try to do so with around 10mb of available program memory the print routine will fail. It is only an inconvienence that I "work around". By the way I load all programs that can be into iPAQ file store to save precious program memory resources.
