One Tough PDA!
Hi Everyone,

Well, it finally happened. While working on some laptops at work, grooving to some MP3s on my 4700, I accidentally knocked it off of my workbench and onto the floor. Talk about "HORROR"!!!. I literally saw it falling in slow motion. It fell from just above waist high level.

Mentally slapping myself upside my head for my stupidity and lack of care (My 4700 is only a month old!) I picked it up, expecting the worst. To my utter amazement and relief there was absolutely nothing wrong with my beloved PDA (besides the plastic cover coming off). I did a thorough check, and not a dent, scratch or dead pixel.

I think I barely missed a bullet this time. Whew!

(Also, Am I the only one that has developed an emotional attachment to their 4700? Should I see a shrink? )

Hi HiddenLurker_CA. Check out my View MyPDA section for the answer to that one.

I've dropped my 4700 while in it's Sena case on the garage floor and no problems either. They are pretty sturdy.

Never dropped mine in the little leather Covertec case I have. I got a Innopocket Magnesium case 2 days ago and feel it is really well protected for my field uses and building inspections. Then today, I pick up the 4700 at my desk old the Innopocket and it slips out of my hand and it falls on the steel leg of my chair. No damage, but it felt like I was very lucky it didn't fall LCD against the leg. Tough yes. And yes I am attached to this little thing. I never really got this attached to my Jornada 720.

Damn!! My 4700 just dropped from about 3feet on to a hardwood floor. My heart stopped!! Luckily, I had it in my Innopocket aluminum case. It is like nothing has happened. This really is a tough PDA!

I have fond memories of many of my PDA's.

The hx4705 being no exeption.

I still remember the great feeling when I fully tricked out my newton MP130.
I'll never part with that unit.

As for PPC's, my Casio E100 was my first color unit and I loved it.
Even with it's short battery life.

I still own many of my old units.

Someday I'd like to get my casio E100 running again.
Needs a battery, which at the moment I don't feel like paying for.

In short, to me it's totally normal, after all it is my second brain.

my hx4700 reminds me of my old HP Jornada 548 in looks and style, Man that 548 was one tough cookie. I dropped it down a flight of CONCRETE stairs ***GASP*** a couple of scratches a small dent in the metal casing everything else was absolutly fine. Didn't even have a case for it, it was a tank.

I can't wait for my Mag Case to arrive, it'll be like old times with the cool flip lid

I dropped my Dell X5 so many times from waist level and it came out working. A month ago I dropped my HX4705 from and same level and the same classroom and it cost me $168.00. Maybe I got a lemon.

Perhaps we could start a "see who can drop their HX4700/5 from the greatest height" competition

(And before anyone says it, No I do not want to go first! )

Misplacing my PDA, for even 3 minutes, or watching it go to pieces in my hand after my dumbass "friend" hits it with a multi-tool (Jornada, may you RIP), makes me want to vomit.

My Toshiba had a heart stopping incident once. I just finish watching a movie at the theater. As I always do when I stand up from a seat, I check my belt for my beloved PDA. The belt case squishes flat, it's empty! We searched the theater, called the resteraunt we ate at, and called my sis at home (all the calls within 5 mins). No Pocket PC.
I went back to the car, and there's my PDA on the parking lot, underneath the car next to us near the tire. Just to add to it... it was NOT the same car that was there before!!!
Picked up the PDA, brushed some dirt and snow off it, flicked the battery lock switch (It had moved to unlock), and the BIOS screen came up, and then the Welcome screen! *PHEW!*

Yup, dropped it to pavement, and a car PULED OUT and another PULLED IN without running it over!

Dropped from ~3ft or so, onto concrete. Had it on the back of my truck, was moving stuff around and I guess I shook the truck enough to make it fall. Let's just say resale value is now diminished, with a couple scuff marks on the plastic and some chipped paint on the casing. Works PERFECT though - powered right up, the battery didn't even come out. Also, the casing didn't even dent. However, SD card did pop out each time it was dropped (did it twice! doh!), so hopefully my new Innopocket will stay closed the next time it is dropped (or hope there is no next time)

SonicJMC: Wow. THAT almost makes ME want to vomit. ;x

I've dropped mine once before I got a case, and second time after I got a Rhinoskin. Couple small scratches in the case, but it still works fine.

Incidentally, for anyone else considering the Rhinoskin case--it rocks, but do your self a favor and crazy-glue the knob onto the back of the case! The reason mine fell in the case was because the knob came unscrewed while I was walking around, and the whole thing, case and all, fell off my belt clip! (Talk about your slow-motion experiences--I was walking around downtown Washington, DC, and I thought for a second it was going to fall into the (busy!) street.)
