where is the best place to install programs and why?
i realized that i've been installing way too many programs directly onto the main memory oppose to either the file storage or onto a SD/CF card, therefore, the amount of memory being allocated to program is becoming less and less.

where is the best place to install programs so that there is a good balance between memory being allocated to program and programs being accessed quickly?

iPAQ file store for everything that can go someplace else other than main memory. By that I mean some today plugin's (pocket Plus) require installation in main memory. File store has faster access than a storage card, not much though. You won;t lose your programs if you lose or remove a storage card.
Try installing all software one by one to file store, with a soft reset in between and using the program (basic functions) then move on to the next. It's tedious and takes a bit of time with many programs, but well worth the effort to make sure you get it right once. THEN DO A COMPLETE BACKUP

Complete backup is an important point. By default, the backup program will not include the filestore. Although on that same note, a hard reset will not clear it either.

Technically, filestore is slower to write than the external drives (I believe that is they direction that is slower so they may be some program that should go on the card...but I never came across one. I had everything except a couple of plgins and TextMaker/PlanMaker on the filestore.

file store is slower because its your SHARED ROM, it has only ONE I/O PORT.. so all ppc functiions in/out of rom must take priority over you playing with files in the other half of the rom... its as simple as that.
