PlanMaker - slow loading programs
Hi,

I just installed PlanMaker to my 4705 and have been trying to open an .xls file of 3.5MB without success. At first I got a message saying 'Insufficient Memory'. I did a soft re-set, adjusted the memory slider bar a couple of times (both directions). After about 2 minutes of first trying to open the file a single line of information from the file opens at the bottom of the screen but the colored 'busy' wheel justs keeps spinning for the next 30 minutes without the file ever opening.

Why would it take so long to open? The file is loaded on a CF card. My memory display on the Today screen shows as much as 29MB available.

If a hard re-set is needed, someone remind me how to do it as I misplaced the instructions.

Thanks for any help on this.

Dave

A couple of comments. Where do you have PM installed? I found a spreadsheet would take 3-4 seconds if the app was installed in main memory, but the same file would take over 40 seconds if the app was installed in FS or SD.

Also, every once in a while, I have a file that I cannot open. It just hangs. I open on a PC and put it back on the card and then PM will open it.

PM had been installed on the CF card but I deleted that and re-installed it in Main memory. I still get the same result, only one line of the spreadsheet shows up before 'Insufficient memory' shows up. This takes about 4-5 minutes to get to that point. I've tried adjusting the memory as much as possible without any positive result.

When I go to Settings and Remove Programs PlanMaker is not listed. Does this mean it's not in Main memory? I do not run the program from the CF card.

I will try again to delete and re-install the program. One more question: When it asks whether or not to associate files with Pocket Excel should I answer 'yes or no'? It recommends 'no' and that is how I set it up.

PM is one of the few PPC apps I have seen that you really run the uninstall from the Control Panel on the PC. Try removing it that way and reinstalling.

Have you tried other spreadsheets? Have you tried opening the problem spreadsheet on the desktop? It could be an issue with this particular file.
