Printing
Ok.. this is probably a silly thought, but I would have thought that if my 4715 can activesync and browse the net using the BT adaptor on my Desktop PC, then one would have thought perhaps I could send print files over the BT Adaptor as well..? My Printer is not BT, but it is on a small (2 PC) network here at home..? Am I clutching at straws, and dreaming of a function that 'should' be available..???

Cheers,

Mike

If your printer is not BT equipped there is no way that it can receive a BT signal from the 47XX. I use an HP 450 wbt and it prints perfectly.

If your printere is on the network or attached to one of the pc's you can send print files via WiFi. Just share the printer, then map the network location of the printer. If your using HP print software you would add a network printer in configuration.

I made an assumation-my fault entirely. My assumtion was that you had a wireless router connecting your pcs. Well there are a couple of ways to do get what you want. The basic setup would require the following

A wireless router for you network that support 802.11b
Your 4715 (?) should have WiFi capabilities built in

Currently I print via WiFi, wired network, IR and BT. I spent quite a bit of time figuring it all out, including all the software required for what I need, so I'm more than willing to help any way possible. To avoid confusion on my part-completely. Please expain the capabilites and setup of your home pc network and your iPAQ.

Thanks..

I have 2 pcs set up, Internet (Sharing) using a Dlink DSL modem.. and a USB HP printer shared across this network... The main PC that has the printer connected to it, also hase a Dlink DBT-120 adaptor on it.

The Network is connected via Ethernet cards,

I have activesync set up, and can browse the web from the PPC. All with little or no connection problems.. I dont have a network card on my PPC, but have somehow managed to create a WiFi connection from the Ipaq to the PC network. (Not that I can see anything on it though..!) I dont want to take up too much of your time, but I do appreciate it.. Just thought it would be handy to print from the PPC without the need for more hardware...

Cheers.....

Does anyone else have any comments. Do I need to add an SD or CF network card, or can I use the in-built wireless capabilities of the 4715..?

Thanks in Advance...

Lets take this a step at a time.
1. to verify you are indeed connected via WiFi to your computer, onthe iPAQ open file explorer and click on the iconof the hand holding the roll of TP.
2. type the network path to open i.e. \\master\shared documents

example:
master = your computers shared name
shared documents = your shared documents folder.
click OK

you may be prompted for a password, if so click OK. If this works you will see the contents of the folder.

if not, you are either not connect to "your" computer, not configured correctly on the iPAQ, not sharing on the PC.

But first things first.
Don't give up and neither will I

one other thing. When you connect via WiFi, what is the name of the network you are connected to? look in WiFi settings. do you recognize the name next to "connected"?

Hi,

The name of the Network that it 'appears' to be connecting to is the correct name of my Workgroup, the Network name...However...

Back to square on though, when I click on Add New, in the 'Configure Wiresless Networks',

1. I type the name of my Network
2. If I select the 'This is a Device-to-device connection', It connects. It also shows an alternate Icon, not the usual beacon type, more of a network card..?

To check if it was actually connecting, I changed the last letter of the network name, and it still connected..? So.. I'm not getting a connection at all.

If I dont select the 'This is a Device-to-device connection', I cannot connect at all..

To be 100% sure, My PC has a BT adaptor on it...I dont have a wireless router, My PC uses USB connections with the ADSL Modem, and my PPC does NOT have an SD or CF network card in it...

Ok.. Success.. to some degree.. I can now see the files of my PC on the PPC...

I managed to acheive the connection using the BT settings, and using Network Access.

Now to figure out how to print over this network..! ( Can this be done over BT or do I HAVE to be over WiFi to do this..?), again, my Printer is not BT, but it is on the network. I did try and add the printer using the Network option on the PPC, but to no avail...

Good, at least we know you can connect to your pc and view files. That's a start and the most vital link to establishing any type of communications. Again forgive me for seeming stupid, but I'm asking some basic stuff to get a clear idea of what is and is not working. I have been trying to simulate your setup on my network to help work through this problem. I have WiFi and usually use it exclusevly. I also have a BT adapter plugged into my computers USB port, so now I can attempt to setup a printer connection. I'll get back to you.

Some progress. First I'm running XPproSP2 with a belkin usb BT adapter. I discovered if I removed the BT adapter and later install it, XP changes the driver back to the Microsoft driver rendering the device inoperable until i go into device manager and change it back to the belkin driver. Just an FYI. now thebetter news. If I use network services (BT), I can view a file name on the 4700, right click, menu appears with option to print. click on print and the file prints to my default (HP 6P laser) printer. Backwards of what you want to do, but a start. Fooling around with the XP driver issue wasted some time. Stay tuned. Now I want it to work as much as you.
