Yes it is possible. You can use a RS232 cable for your iPAQ and use an app like PockeTTY for serial communications.

Yes..your 4700 Does Have A Serial Port.. It Is Accessed By Using A Gender Adapter , One End Is Usb Female, The Other End Is Serial Male , You Would Plug Your 4700 Cradles Usb Connector ( Or The Usb Connector Of The Hp Travel Sycn Cable ) Into The Female Usb End Of The Gender Adapter, Then You Plug Your Serial Device Cable Into The Gender Adapters Serial End.. And Make Sure Your 4700 Is In The Cradle Or Connected To The Sync Cable, And You Then Use A 3rd Party Program That Allows You To Configure A
Virtual Usb Hosted Serial Port... Your 4700 Does This Easily.. I Use A Pgm Called G Gate, It Works Really Well.. Most Of The Gps Guys Are Familiar With Doing This... They Can Tell You In The Gps Forum Good Programs To Configure Virtual Usb Serial Ports.... Thats All You Need Is That Program And A Gender Adapter Or Some Kind Of Cable Arrangment That Lets You Hook Your Serial Device To The Usb Plug Of Your Sync Travle Cable Or Cradle..
