4700 vs. FS Loox 720
I am trying to choose between iPaq 4700 and Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket Loox 720.

Besides the issue of 4" screen and poor accessories' support, can anyone tell me why I should choose 4700 over Loox 720?

Thanks.

The only reason I can think of and I apologize if this bothers anyone but I don't think I could say I have a "Loox 720"

I think it really depends on your needs. I would rather carry a descent digital camera than to take pictures with the 1.3 megapixel integrated into the Loox. The USB host option on the Loox is very slow from what I have read on previous reviews. I can carry over twice the battery power on my hx4700 with an extended battery than what is available on the Loox. I charge it up everynight and by the time I get home from work, it is usually around 40+% after 5 to 6 hours of use (barcode scanning, spreadsheet & project manipulation, 1/2 hour of the local news on betaplayer, the local enews on mobipocket and a few tunes etc...). Every review I have read on the Loox totally slams it for poor graphics performance as well (under 30fps on 640*480 mpeg4 files).

So if you have an application you can use this limited digital camera, have a need for an integrated USB host where you will not be sending large files, will not be viewing movies in VGA resolution and using the pda a few hours a day, the Loox may be a better option. If you would rather not have a minature touchpad which I rarely use at all because it is more intuitive with a stylus for me, the Loox would be a better choice. Otherwise I would go with the hx4700(5).

There is one major plus the Loox has over the hx4700 that I know of. You can adjust the clock speed manually through an integrated application which will save battery life if you are not running cpu intensive applications.

This is just my opinion by reviews that I have read about the Loox. I have never seen one in person (even though I work for Siemens, lol).

I tested both for work, and I must say that the Loox 720 is a fine piece of equipment, the jog wheel is handy (really miss that on the hx4700) but the thing that broke my heart on the unit was a bad subpixel, that can happen, guarantee you would say..... Well not really Fujitsu-Siemens will take it in and if you are lucky you may get support but there is no support policy on pda's. Which is a real no-go for our company.

The main reason for choosing HP is the screen, it is absolutely brilliant! Next to that they are mostly the same.....

Hello,
I was in same situation 2 months ago. I was having hard times choosing between Loox, Ipaq4700 and Dell v50. After hard prioritization between features the most important features (based on my pda usage) for me are:
1.screen quality (as that is interface to use pda's)
2. Battery life without recharge (annoying if you need to do something and your battery is dead)
3. Performance ( I hate slowness )
4. Support and guarantee (if and when something goes wrong I want to get quick responses)

Then I was checking this review: http://www.mobile-review.com/pda/rev...aring-en.shtml

where you can clearly see that Ipaq is best what comes to screen quality and battery life. Performance was also best in Ipaq. Guarantee is same one year and about support I dont know (I have heard it is bad for HP). Therefore I did go for Ipaq hx4700, even test winner was loox 720. It did win because of ergonomics, as ipaq has touchpad which is poor to operate acc. to reviewer. For me it does not matter as I use stylus almost all the time. By the way, I have found touchpad also pretty convenient in some situations and I would rate ergonomics as 9/10.

So it all depence how you are going to use your devices, which then furthermore defines what are the most important features !

I think that if you choose one of these pda's you can't go wrong. You will get one of the best PDA's ever anyway !

The loox is smaller, lighter, has jog dial, digital camera, usb host, 128MB of RAM, and has normal buttons and dpad for better control. The RAM difference is huge, as you will notice many hx4700 owners have opted for the upgrade, which costs an additional $199US. I doubt that the speed differences between the two units will be noticable at all under normal conditions.
The hx4700 has a slightly bigger screen and processor, but thats about it.
I would get the loox 720 without hesitation.

If you push all of the above to one side and concentrate purely on looks (I know it's a bit shallow). The HX4700 looks so damn good. Oh and it's an iPAQ. This is just my opinion but I like the touch pad, I use it all the time (not really a big game player, I can buy a PSP or something for that if I need it). I have found the battery life on the 4700 to be very good and the screen REALLY is as GOOD as they say it is. I have a whole load of apps loaded and haven't noticed the 64mb RAM to be a handicap in the slightest, performance is great. I bought it and it made me feel good!

I find that the touchpad is useful when I don't want to pull out the stylus and put it back to its silo after each use.

This is a tough question, after reading up about the 720 it is an awesome PDA. I am probably one of the few people that want a camera on my PDA. If I were you I would go with the 720.
