some folks askd for
info on the new sd usb 2.0 host card.. i was notifed today that they are simply awaiting the final signed driver to arrive from microsoft.. and then they will send my test unit. it should be interesting..

on another note...
I HAD SAID..that I was going to OPEN the 4700.. well.. I DID.. and to be
honest.. i was pretty dissapointed, it was..well..anti-climatic.. ( well excecpt for loosing one case screw! doh! ) and so inside..the pc board is a little
1/2" wide strip that runs up and down one side..and has a second piggbacked little pcboard over the cpu.. I would imagine this is the cache, ram, and controller chip board. the rest of the insides were taken up by slot housings..battery area..ect.. it was pretty uneventfull, even ugly.. ive worked inside electronics for 30 years and i guess it was pretty dull in there by most standards.. it wasnt even worth taking a picture of... however next time i go in..ill do that if someone really wants one.. HP MADE SURE THEY REMOVED ALL ID'S OFF OF MOST OF THE CHIPS.. SO I HAVE A GOOD GUESS WHICH IS THE RAM CHIP.. IF ANYONE WHO HAS DONE THE UPGRADE KNOWS WHICH ONE..LET US KNOW.. BECAUSE I DID NOT SEE ANY OF THE CHIPS THAT COULD NOT BE CHANGED EASILY IN MY SHOP..(( MEANING THE RAM ))IF THE EXACT ONE WERE KNOWN...
well..thats about it for now.. STILL AWAITING WORD ON THE NEW "N" SD WIRLESS CARD.. RAIDER

I'm not sure what you mean by the pc board being "a little 1/2 inch wide strip". I checked out the FCC pictures, it looks the same as every other pocket pc on the market. Very similar to the mainboard on a normal computer (without the heatsinks of course). The mainboard takes up the full size of the unit. The daughter board you noticed was probably the wifi card. The CPU, RAM and video processor are on the front side of the board (the side facing the display). The backside has nothing but power control. All of the pictures are easily available already on fcc.gov. Chips on the gov site are identified as well. I'm not sure what you were expecting to see inside, but it looks OK to me, definately not ugly. And BTW, all consumer electronics are anti-climatic inside IMHO. Thanks for the take apart and comments, though.
