the WM2005 debate
The big question I have heard everybody asking is: Is HP going to release a WM2005 ROM update?

Personally, I think they will, it's probably going to cost $50 though. Their last main flagship PDA, the 5455, was released with 2002, and when 2003 came out, HP offered an upgrade. I think HP is probably going to do the same with the Hx4705.

So, let's have our voices heard! Vote whether or not you will pay, and how interested you are.

Given past history, I wouldn't hold my breath. Each new major o/s release is typically tied to new h/w, that is after all what PCs are all about.

Not too concerned myself...I have my 4700 set up the way I like and it's doing its job nicely...ROM update for fixes, yes, I'll apply...but won't pay too much for WM2K5...I haven't seen enough that's sold me on it being a needed upgrade for me

I would not mind paying for it, I just hope it is an option.

Agreed. I would probably pay for the OS upgrade though. A "hundred" years ago when Compaq offered an OS upgrade for the 3600 I had back then, I payed the 36.00 for the upgrade. Curious, when MS releases a OS for the PC I don't hear anyone clamoring for a free upgrade for their PC. I wonder why so many expect a free OS upgrade for their PPC's. ROM updates with fixes maybe, but not OS upgrades.

i paid for an upgrade to WM2003 on my dell axim x5, i'd do it again for the hx4700, but obviously the trend lately has been to release new OS with new hardware...

Ditto. Plus, considering I have what HP calls it's "Professional" pda, just maybe an upgrade path will be offered.

But then again, I have been wrong before.

Its Not Going To Happen Folks.. It Will Not Happen As An Upgrade. First..
The 4700 Isnt Configured With Enough Ram To Run It. Second, Hp Can Sell Zillions Of New 4700's With The Ram And The Os.. Forcing You To Sell Yours And Buy Another One...the Profit There Is Many Times Greater Than Just A $25 Upgrade. Its All Bottom Line Accounting... EDITED BY MODERATOR: As reply was not particularly useful and could have been interpreted as demeaning or degrading to other members

The point here is not to be cynical, but to gather a collective voice so HP can hear us.

Well no it's not really. How can they make more profit by selling complete items if it generates ill will among existing customers.
I WILL buy the upgrade if it appears, I WILL NOT buy a new PDA from this company if the upgrade does not appear. Nor WILL I buy anything else from HP if this is the level of support that they provide.
I believe that I bought the best PDA I could get from the best manufacturer. I would hope that they intend to support their customers and provide the type of service that Compaq used to provide.

I don't know what WM2005 would do for me, but I hope there's a ROM update to fix the memory leak problems.
