Battery charge info
Wondering if somebody could explaine what the difference is between a slow charge and a fast charge on the hx4700?

Also, my hx4700 charges in its cradle even without the "use USB charging" box ticked? I thought the idea was to have this box ticked in order to use USB to charge??? correct me if I am wrong

Thanks

Mungo, your cradle also has a power supply attached to it. Your PDA will always charge in the cradle as long as the power is plugged in.

USB charging can be used when the power supply is unplugged, but is actually meant to charge your unit through a USB port on a remote computer. Say your laptop when you're away from your PC & cradle.

The fast or slow charge determines how much power the unit sucks from the power source. For example if your using the USB on your laptop to charge the PDA and your laptop isn't plugged in, a fast charge will suck more of your laptop's battery during charging than the slow charge.

I use the cable instead of the cradle and with USB charge unchecked and it still charges the pda and pull enough to give me a USB port surge (I have a Dell notebook). Is this normal?

That depends on what other things you have turned on, on your PDA. I get that if I have WiFi enabled, or play a movie. The Dell laptops are really sensitive to the amount of power being supplied to its USB ports.

The only thing I have turned on was the PDA. I have WiFi and Bluetooth off.
Everytime I plug it in, I get the USB power surge and the charging light starts blinking eventhough I have "USB charge" turned off. The is the second 4705 I have and both of them do the same thing. BTW, my notebook is Dell Inspiron 8200.

Same problem with 4700 and Dell latitude regardless of whether USB charge is on/off slow/fast.

Works if charge ipaq fully from mains charger first...

I found out that if the only USB thing that plugged into my Dell notebook was the 4705, than I don't have the surge problem. That means I have to unplug my USB mouse to plug in the HP 4705.

Yey. Thanks ils - that's fixed it. Shame about the lack of a PS/2 port on the latitude - could have had mouse + iPaq then.
