New Gamepad options for us Gamers...bye bye zeta
A couple new options for gamers.......

There is a bluetooth gamepad coming out (hopefully)http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=20626

There are also now working USB gamepad driviers available for the gravis/sidewinder gamepads and joysticks.....no lag time on the buttons and wotrks with any game that will let you map the keys and directionals......
http://www.pocketmatrix.com/forums/v...ic.php?t=20203

it might be time to pick up a usb host adapter.......if only the twin paradox would ever be released..........

oh and Dan East.....the guy who ported Quake to PPC Supposedly has an infared adapter that hooks onto a psx controller so you could hook it up to the ipaq via IR, but this has been rumoured for a long time now with nothing solid........probably vaporware.....

Question: why does it matter? As best as I can tell there are no good games for thte HX4700 anyway tha require a pad. What games are you using / hoping to use the pad for, anyway?

The only good game I have found for my 4700 so far is Atomic Cannon, which now is fully optimized for the 4700, including using true 480x640 resolution.

I am going on vacation in a month and need some more games. Suggestions? (NO, not Bejewelled or any of those puzzle types of games)

Ummmm...........Doom, Doom II, Chopper Alley, Simcity 2000 and Virtual Pool Mobile just to name a few very nice games for the 47xx. I have to admit that I would love to have a gamepad for Doom and Chopper Alley.

Wouldn't it be much cheaper to get the Zeta Pad? If I could only find a place to purchas it.

dude there are so many kick @ss games out there....atomic cannon is a weak game....its just an update of an old school arcade game (can't remember the name)......what a waste for such a powerfull pda

With my hx4705 and Zeta Gamepad I play:

1. Street Fighter Alpha 1 and 2
2. Mortal Kombat
3. Killer Instinct
4. Final Fight 1-3
5. Chrono Trigger
6. All Mario Games
7. Tetris
8. collums
9. Metalion 1-2
10. Geo Rally 2005
11. Street Duel: Underground Racing (awesome game)

and when kung-fu fighter is released I will be all over it

I still haven't been able to get the port of quake working but i haven't tried in awhile and I think someone else already figured it out......

obviously these gamepads are not gonna excite everyone and if you have to ask what good it would be for a pda to have a gamepad you probably don't need one in the first place.........but if you ever want to play a racing game or any of the snes, genesis, pce games on your hx4705 it is a requirement.

zeta pads are $50 and are no longer being made........although I saw a new version of the zetapad on a korean website......it was smaller with more buttons and a different styled directional pad. maybe Be Interactive are just revamping their product and will start selling again........but the new pad I saw looked way cooler than the one I have now........(Zeta Pad only has four buttons. I need a game pad with at least six buttons)

I appreciate the list Thought. I tried a couple of those out just now.OK, I guess, but they don't work at 640x480. I also haven't found any emulator that works well on 4700, whether at qVGA or true VGA.

morphgear gets my vote (use newest version @ set display driver to write to raw frame buffer with for fastest) with the emulators like morphgear you really have to play around with the settings both global and within consoles themselves to get good gameplay.....each game has its own optimum settings (which kinda bugs but wtf)

you aren't playing those games with ozvga or another true vga program are you? If you are it usually won't work.....sometimes though you can use tweaks2k to trick it with hi res tweak......but they mostly all play in the native aspect (except GAPI driven games)

Well, by true VGA I mean ozVGA. I have no idea how someone can an HX4700 and not use it in true VGA mode. Its just so damn beautiful. I know some people find the fonts too small, but with some fiddling you get the fonts to work the way you want, and its like having a true PC in your pocket.

I realized early on that practically no games worked in true VGA (except atomic cannon ), and a couple of others. I tried a number of games that worked OK in qVGA, but bah, 320 x 240 screens remind me of my Gameboy too much.

My last attempt with morphgear was a fiasco, but that was before 2004, so maybe the new version was better.

Now that X50 and 4700 are out, and my impression is that they have achieved some popularity (notwithstanding the so-called "death" of the whole PDA sector) there should be sufficient market to get programmers to make their games 480x640 capable. After all, if we are able to plunk down 400-700 for the basic PDA, let alone the fancy leather holder, wouldn't one think that a truly sexy shooter game or something like that would have a market of people willing to pay for it? It should look even better than the PSP.

Wishful thinking anyway.

Cheers.
