New 4700...another love hate relationship. Suggestions?
Well, I've had my new hx4700 for about 24hrs or so and as I predicted I love it and I've spent a good deal of time cursing at it. So far it's done some typical bizzare things that new toys do as they're deciding if they're going to be nice to their new owner! Most frustrating was when I deleted a program in order to reinstall and it did a hard reset all by itself?! Go figure...

Anyway, when I add an image to the Today screen it is very transparent and I saw a hint in a help file that you could control the transparency of the desktop image. Anybody know how?
Thanks

Welcome! I've seen several threads regarding this exact topic. Have you tried the search feature? Searching and reading the tutorial will save you hours of frustration. Also look at the My PDA feature of some of the long time members here, they have great tips for software. Good luck!

Yep, I've done a search and I've been browsing tutorials. What the general message says is...
"Go to the today screen, select programs, then select "Pictures"

The problem is that there isn't such a program as "Pictures" any longer. It seems to have been replaced by "HP Image Zone" which doesn't seem to offer a solution to this problems as far as I've found so far.

I'm hoping one of the members here has tracked down a solution to this...

Microsoft has a free program on their Windows Mobile site that allows you to produce Today Screen themes - download
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the effort. The theme generator was a good thought and I've used it before on my 3950...worked great for it. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to want to work for the 4700 due to the Second Edition of the operating system. It comes up and says unable to transfer as the mobile device is not running Pocket PC 2002! Damn Well maybe I can track down a solution yet.
Anymore ideas?

This error has been around for a while.

There is a solution - when you create the theme save it to your hard disk instead of trying to allow the programme to transfer it to your iPaq - then copy it across manually to your device.

It will work then

Yes, I've found that I can save a theme to disk and then copy it over to the My Documents folder in the Main memory. Clumsy but it works. I don't seem to be able to store the themes in Ipaq File Store. I read in one of the threads something about creating a new MY DOCUMENTS folder but it still doesn't seem to recognize it.

Well, now to fix the next bug....no volume control on the Windows Media Player.

Red Seven, congratulations on your purchase!

As the others have said, you can use MS Theme Generator to manipulate your themes & then move them across yourself - I store my themes in the 'My Pictures' folder, otherwise the PPC can't seem to 'find' them.

What's with the 'no volume control' problem? Are you saying the slider bar doesn't work, or doesn't exist? Have you got the volume on your PPC on?

Hi Sugar Cube,

Yes, I've worked it out with the wallpaper thing, at least as far as using the theme generator. It's basically a matter of saving it to the desktop pc hard drive and then copying it to the Ipaq manually rather than having it install automatically via the theme generator.
I've also discovered another useful tip...I've saved my .tsk files to Ipaq File Store successfully. The unit will recognize it's there so long as it's in the root directory.
As for my volume control I think it was just a dump user error. There is a slight lag between changing the volume on the slider and the actual sound changing which I guess is due to memory issues. I was probably just too impatient and didn't give it enough time. One way or another it seems to be OK now.
