Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse?
I have a question that doesn't involve ROM Updates in any way!

Has anyone bought or seen the Stowaway bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

I have both on back-order with expansys, but was wondering if anyone else has any experience of using these products with the hx4700?

The link is: www.thinkoutside.com

Maybe others will be interested in turning their PDA into a mini-laptop?

A little bit on the pricey side though, but looks very James Bond

i have them both and they work very well. the only problem is that the mouse does not work in "true" vga mode but other than that i've had great luck with mine. i use the mouse as the mouse for my laptop too. the keyboard takes a bit of getting used to in order to press fn to get numbers, but touch typing is easy. it's a great rigid design that you can just grab and lift up and type- no need for a flat surface. every once in a while i get character doubling- think it has to do with holding shift to capitalize a letter or something... not a big problem and doesn't happen too much. overall a great setup- i got mine at amazon.com

My mouse works perfectly in real VGA (using SE_VGA). You probably use an old driver. You have to use driver version 4.1. or 4.2.

best regards

I don't have the mouse (waiting for the ROM upgrade ), but I have the keyboard & it's great! I've had no problems at al with it, & the Fn key setup is niggly at first but I soon got used to it.

I can see these 'Rom Update' jibes are going to be coming my way thick and fast after all my ranting Thanks for the info on the keyboard though, I'm really looking forward to being able enjoy the laptop experience on my 4700, even though my order with expansys has been saying 'expected in 12 days' for the last week. I may cancel and order from somewhere else.

bhands, have you tried Clove Technology? Good, personal service & they let you know if there's a problem with the order (I ordered a few things from them & they phoned me to ask if I wanted the order in 2 parts or was I happy to wait until the full order was ready).

BTW, they don't sell the ROM upgrade (had to get it in before someone else did - right, no more mention of the subject from me )

I have the HP BT keyboard and the ThinkOutside mouse. I agree with Kenundrum. The mouse is not ready for the hx4700. But the keyboard works fine. Personal opinion: both wont worth anything. Fantastic but not very productive. Word on PocketPC is still a fantasy compared to what you can do with a laptop. Personally, i couldnt make use of both of the devices worth almost 150$ in total. Fells like such a waste of money. But i like to try the new gadgets. Should i publish a web-log or start my own forum? At least i can try those for free

Have you tried TextMaker? It lets you do almost everything you can do in the full version of word on your PDA. Also it keeps files in native word format.

There is link to the programme in my MyPDA.

Very good suggestion: Put your 4700 in landscape mode, unzoom the textware window in order to put a lot of text on the screen (or better, change to Real VGA if you have to write some long text) and open your TO kayboard and you have a very nice and complete word processor. In fact I have bought my 4700 for this usage, leaving the 4Kg laptop at home if I will only do word processing...

Regards

Rob, I've been looking at Textmaker, does it run ok on the 4700. I see these guys also do Planmaker, which looks much better for spreadsheets. Have you used Planmaker? I've just been on the web site for these products and I think I'll give their 30-day trial a shot.

bhands, both works perfectly in my 4700. They are a little bit expensive but if you need serious word processing and a real spreadsheet, they work as advised and the Windoze versions are nice too...
