Just purchased a hx4700 & need alittle help
I just purchased my first pocket pc, A HX4700.

I also just started to download music from the net.

I'm currently using napster to download music to my computer and I am not having any problems with that but, now I am wanting to put the music on my hx4700 and am running into a problem.

I can move a copy of the music to my hx4700 in the main memory, then I move it to my sd card, that's no problem, but then I try to play the music and the pocket pc has a message that says,

"The license for this file canot be found. Use Windows Media Player on your pc to copy the file to your device again."

Now I have no idea what to do.

Can anyone help me????

Thanks for any help.

Hi activedad. Welcome to the forum. In WMP on your PC, do you have a File/Save as option? If so, try using that to copy the files over to your pocket PC My Documents folder, then try syncing. I am not sure however that Media Player on the PPC can handle the licensing/copy right protection that is being supplied by Napster. Please don't take that as gospel fact. I haven't used the service so I am not sure.

activedad,

My suggestion is to download and use GSplayer v2.2, and excellent music player which plays everything I've tried, including Ogg's.

BetaPlayer, a popular video playback software, will also play mp3's without any problems.

Both free, and can be found on the pocketpcfreewares, linked in Resources--> links, above.

Tried that already.

Thanks for the idea.

It still says that the license is not there.

How do I get the license for my music?

You have to sync with WMP to get the license. Other than that way. I know of no other procedure.

You will only be able sync Napster music with WMP10 and the 4700 only has WMP9. Hopefully it will be upgraded to WMP10 through a ROM update.

Other than that you would have to remove the DRM from the music files, anyone know how to do that? I think JNGold mentioned before about burning to a CD and than copying the music from the CD directly to the SD/CF card.

Edit: Looks like Phullcourt already found a way around the DRM.

Napster? Music? License??? WTH? Oh...that's right, you have to pay now for Napster don't you? I forgot about that when I went to WinMX. LOL

I would have guessed that you could use a converter to convert from WMA or MP# to another MP3. It takes another step, but should remove the license during conversion.

MAKE SURE...that you are NOT using WMP10. From what's been going on, the 4700 Windows Media player does NOT like the wma/wmv files from WMP10...they should be in WMP9 format.
