Home WIFI with 128bit WEP
I have been using a wep key on my wifi for some time. But i have to keep on unchecking PEAP IEEE in the 801.x tab under the wifi settings tab. Which was pain, and i know it is bug. But now it does not even remember my settings. What gives? I am using open wifi w/no key right now for a temp solution. Please tell me there is a fix for this? Any help and ideas?

I have two sets of settings on my PPC - one for work & one for home, and the only time that I lose these settings is if I use a program called StreetHawk to search for available networks.

Are you running any software to discover networks (this might be causing your settings to be deleted)?

Nope no software to discover networks. The only setting I lose is the IEEE Checkbox. Other than that it is working. This really irritates me. I paid so much and I get so little, or a lot of bugs. Any other IDEA's?

I took this up with HP CS on the phone and guess what the solutions is!!! Use open Wifi with no encryption. I'm guessing this will be a fix in the ROM update.

I think I may have to wait for the update. I have been using my WIFI in disabled security.

@Driftless, What do you mean? Please elaborate.

I have a Netgear AP at home I use for the 3 laptops and my iPAQ at home. The setup is 802.11b (only b) using 128bit encryption. All the computers and iPAQ connect and work fine. No issues for me.

PEAP is a corporate level security run (I believe) on CISCO networks. You certainly don't need it and I'm not sure why the box will not remain unchecked. One thing some people have had success with when certain settings don't 'stick' is to use the enter on the onscreen keyboard instead of the X in the upper right corner to leave the screen after making the correct setting (in this case, unchecking the box).

Okay I will try that. Also I will remove my setting and then enter it in again.

Oh yeah. Also when the check box would stick when I unchecked it only lasted for that coneection. The if i reseted or turned on flight mode. I would have to uncheck it again.

This is so freakin' lame. I changed my SSID name and my WEP key. And still does not remember that darn checkbox!! Is there a way so that I can actually use PEAP IEEE so I can get around this? I still want to have a protected WIFI.

Use WPA type authentication as to forget about IEEE 802.x network access control.
The best is to combine WPA-PSK authentication with TKIP data encryption. Of course in this case each computer should know about the netwok key you set up in your WiFi Access Point.
