Big mistake NEED HELP
My friend connected USB cradle BEFORE he inserted CD. Than he called me as I’m IT guy to help the problem. I didn’t succeed.

Hx4700 is connected. Through the win XP I can browse on it, but sync doesn’t work. Synchronization starts than I got error message: Synchronization error.

What can I do? Reinstallation of windows? I hope not.

Thanks a lot.

Try removing ActiveSync from the PC, then re-installing it.

dransey's right, do a complete uninstall, remove the partnership if you created one, delete program files on your PC and reinstall AS.

The problem is that windows has tried to autodetect your device without the proper device driver being present, please read this carefully it requires quick action.
-make sure the cradle is not connected to the pc
-Use right mouse button on My Computer
-Properties
-go to Hardware
-Device List (could be another name can't check it out right now)
-Plug in the cradle, make sure the iPaq is on
-Keep looking at the hardware list, you will notice an unkown device pop up, if you wait too long it will disappear again
-Delete it as fast as you can
-Close all opened screens
-Take the iPaq from the cradle and put it back in, it should give you a proper getting connected screen now.....

Good luck!

Heh, it REALLY doesnt matter how you connect them and install the drivers. Manufacturers assume we are retards so tell us to install the drivers first so that they will be detected when the device is plugged in. You can still get the drivers installed the other way around. What you need to do is go into Device Manager (Win+pause/break) then find the iPAQ (probably will show up as "Unknown Device") then try reinstalling the drivers for it.

Believe me there are a few devices that you really should install first before plugging them in, I totally follow your idea of changing the unkown device into the good one by choosing the correct driver, the only problem is that more and more manufacturers stop giving out clean .inf files and instead give you setup files. There are ways around that (by checking out your temp folder while you run a setup.exe) but there are lots of people out there that aren't capable of extracting the correct driver. In this case ActiveSync will provide the correct driver and it is far from easy to find winceusb.inf to add the device beforehand. As far as I know the most annoying devices in this category are digital camera's, scanners and printers.
