My thoughts...
*also posted at Brighthand*

I've been here since the hx4700 was announced... and I knew from the moment I saw the specs, it would be the replacement for my Cassiopeia E-125.

The 128/64 ROM/RAM configuration never bothered me... but I will never forget the countless threads of complaints "this is the reason I'm not getting one... HP doesn't know what they are doing... bla bla."

Sucks to be those people who used that as their deciding factor.

...Now with persistant memory utilizing this memory configuration and WM2005 for us, I just sit back and laugh. Thanks to everyone who has been there for the ride.

Heheh yes, well put indeed I guess this means the 128MB upgrade is even less needed now.

I have to agree with ShALLaX, and then some: all those people who (for good reason) had their hx470x memory upgraded are probably screwed -- I'll bet that one of the requirements for the WM2005 upgrade is that the hardware is "unmodified".

I disagree. IF (and it is a big if) the memory upgrade does cause an issue (and I actually can't think why it would as it doesn't require any 'drivers' or similar) then I am sure ppctechs will release any fixes required.

I think it just means that the memory upgrade is less attractive as you won't need so much RAM.

*Agrees with Rob*. I doubt the ROM update does any sort of system profiling before installing (this has been proven by the juarez kiddies who have tried installing the WM5.0 beta and screwed their system). The 128MiB will always give an advantage, just less-so now. I can't wait to have a full 64MiB of RAM to play with!

Hence there should be a price reduction as well. $200.00 US is way too much for a 64mb upgrade, especially if it is not attractive as it once way and not required for a significant performance increase.

I am not sure I follow your logic there

I think it is up to you to decide whether you feel you need the extra 64mb of RAM to such an extent that you are willing to pay for the upgrade (whatever the price it is).

To me your comment is a bit like saying the price of 'top of the range' alloy car wheels should come down in price because they improved the ones that come standard on your car
