You would need to edit the picture with a photo editing program like Photoshop or the like on your PC. You could also use a PPC application such as Photogenics or Pocket Artist.

If you're trying to create Today themes for your 4700 you may want to use MS Theme Generator(freeware). It allows you to set how opaque the picture appears on your screen.

I have the same problem. Setting a wallpaper gives it this grey overlap that ruins the image. Dock can display the image fine, creating it with theme generator displays it fine, but setting it as wallpaper gives it a grey overlap. Maybe WM2005 fixes this. I'd like to upgrade but I'm not sure where to go

This is just the way it is. If you make a theme with the image this will not happen. I guess MS thought some images would make it too hard to read the today screen.

I have found a way to do this. All you need is Resco Photoviewer. You open the image that you want to make a background. you resize the image to 480 x 640 (for vga) and save it anywhere (note: if you save it to a card then if you take the card out for a soft reset the image will not be your background) after it is saved, click and hold on the new saved image and select "save as today wallpaper" and your done. You may have to play with the size of the image to get it to fit just right. But it works and it gives you a nice photo wallpaper thats not all washed out.

Hope this helps.

Is there a registry/file tweak that resco uses to do this?

With the desired image open in full view mode in Pictures, tap on Tools (bottom left) and select the "Set as Today Wallpaper…" option from the pop-up menu. The following screen will appear allowing you adjust the fit and transparency of the image when it is displayed as the Today screen backdrop.

Sorry, but the only picture software that I found on my 4705 is HP Image Zone and there is no such option under in the tools and tapping and holding on the full image does nothing. The only software that I have found that will let you do this on the 4705 is Resco Photo Viewer.
