I successfully upgraded the ROM and restored my last backup. These are the 10 Easy Steps I followed:

1.) Using Sprite Backup Premium Edition, I created a full backup of the 4700 including the iPAQ File Store and saved this to my SD Card.

2.) Got the 'Device Upgrade File Creation Tool' from http://spritesoftware.com/en/persona...rade_files.htm

3.) Copied this file to the SD Card.

4.) Ran the 'Device Upgrade File Creation Tool' on the 4700. Only option is a Save button.

5.) Moved the UpgradeData.sbu file from the root of the 4700 to the SD Card.

6.) Ran the ROM Upgrade Utility.

7.) Installed Sprite Backup Premium Edition to the iPAQ File Store.

8.) Set the restore options in Sprite Backup to 'Enable device upgrade mode'.

9.) Pointed Sprite Backup to the location of the UpgradeData.sbu file when prompted.

10.) Restored the backup.

Working fine now, no problems noticed at all.

NOTE: If anyone is interested in the UpgradeData.sbu file, I can make it avaliable for download. This will save you the step of creating it yourself. And according to the Sprite website, this file would be the same for all English Language hx4700's

I did exactly the same except that I had synchronised with my desktop outlook. Maybe that was what caused the screen to look crazy.

Still, the ROM upgrade worked and I am back in business.

Mobi1, this is the second time I've seen you doing this? I have not heard anybody expecting anything else but WMP10 and some updates. What exactly ARE you talking about? And why do you continue to rant about children? Just cool off.

Oh...and by the way...

My benchmarking is in progress...should have results in about...2 hours I guess.

I'm all done the update - had to do run the RUU twice...for some reason it pooped out at 72% the first time...so during a hairy second attempt where it felt like I was staring at the bar move all the way to 100%, it rebooted and worked like a charm...figured it was a good time to redo my app installations so all I had to do before updating was move my odd bit of data to a safe spot on the CF and SD cards.

All running well now - figure I'll give WMP10 a go tomorrow and see what the hubbub's all about

And thank God you made it bhands! We were all worried...LOL

Just finished the upgrade (well, an hour or so ago, then I had to leave work).. GOing to play with it now. Went smoothly, didn't seem to fix my wifi issues (so there's probably something else in addition to what I'm fighting), but seems to work fine.. Didn't bother restoring, rather just reinstalled all the apps and am slowly restoring the databases and other stuff I need.

Be intersting to see what all the hubbub about WMP10 is about. Will find out soon enough.

Hey I got it finally on. Dumb HP messed me up. I installed 1.0 and didnt noticed until it was too late. Cuz I spent a hour or more installing stuff. The I had to do it over. I did a restore but my internet connection for AS and WIFI would not work. So I had to do a fresh install of everything. But not so bad. I got a squeaky clean PPC now.

it IS faster, and my wifi connection time is a fraction of what it was.

IE even seems faster...and for wmp10...looks nice, but i doubt i'll use it...but good nonetheless.

PI starts much faster too...

...i guess numbers arent everything.
