Quiet here tonight...
I guess everyone is doing their ROM update.

The question is do I want to bother? Looks like a lot of hassle and maybe risk of cock up, installed applications not working, using up more RAM etc etc

Ipaq working fine for what I'm doing, internet, syncing, WiFi etc etc. Not too interested in WMP (beta player seems a lot better anyway)

So do I need the hassle. What do you reckon...?

That is always the question with ROM updates

The latest version of Sprite Back-up (which I believe is installed on your 4705) has the ability to perform a restore across ROM updates - so that should take some of the pain from having to reinstall all your Apps.

Hi Grumps, I am waiting patiently on some feedback before updating too.

Any ROM update has to be well worth the impending headaches. I'd rather not be the first.

If you are too chicken to install THIS update ( ) I assume you will install WM5 sometime in 2008

BTW - I agree with you - if your unit is operating how you want it to - why update?

I updated this morning before I went to work, the whole process took about 1 hour. I did not have much time to check everything out but at least it works alright.

Thanks for the info. All kidding aside, I will proably do this when I get home tonight. Other than frequent screen swapping back to IPAQHQ , I do have a lot of stuff going on at work this morning.

well my stance on "if it's not broke dont fix it" is that you should anyway. just cause it's not broke doesn't mean that there's not new functionality you'll love. everything has a few bugs, and i've never seen a bug that totally pissed me off enough to not use a feature except for one- ironically on my 4700 with credant's mobile security suite interfering with spb pocketplus. and if there are problems that you can't deal with you can always go back. i'm a fan of hard resets/ reformatting computers. it's a good way to get rid of unneeded garbage. obviously i keep proper backups.

I agree with Kenundrum - except where Linux is concerned I have a system thats been running on the same installation for over 600 days now! With Windows, however, it pays to format every 6 months and restore from a "Clean" backup.

If things break you can always revert back to 1.0. Just keep a FULL backup!

I'm with the leave well alone party here.

I have got my device stable and it does all that I want it to without problems so I don't think I will bother with the ROM update.

I can see that there may well be others that are having issues that the update will fix but luckily I seem not to be one of those.

So I'm going to wait for the WM2005 update and have a good clear out then.

Well wait until it gets in a state where a good spring clean is needed and then use a rom update as a good excuse to wipe the system and start again

OK, here's feedback......
Completely Painless process. Just be aware that it will blow away the ipaq filestore, so copy anything in here first.

Bluetooth Memory bug noticeably absent, which is handy
