Emergency Lost File Store!
Okay, to sum this up...I have an hx4700. I think I really messed up. I had recordings of my daughter's heartbeat from when we had our first ultrasound, and that was in the Ipaq File Store, then I ran the new ROM image update today, and I can't find it anywhere. Can anyone help with any advice? I'm really desperate and my wife is very sad!

I'm really sorry to say, Darin, but the recordings are lost. Part of the upgrade process involves completely (and unfortunately, irreversibly) formatting the ROM and replacing the formatted ROM with the updated version. All other files on the ROM prior to the upgrade will be erased permanently.

Oh boy. Well, that was truly stupid of me. I've been in this business for quite some time, and I was in such an excited hurry this morning before work to get the new ROM update, I didn't think to backup the file store. A lesson learned, though. Gosh it just really sucks about losing our first child's heartbeat; if any of you are dads, you probably could understand that. Thanks anyway guys.

yes...i understand...just like pictures, it is something that cannot be replaced...but you have the MEMORY that will last a lifetime. anytime you hear a heartbeat, it will always remind you of those times...and that is what is important.

Sorry to hear about your loss Darin, but I think you may well not be the only one who loses some very important information in this mad dash to upgrade the ROM.

We have all waited for a fair while now for this update so is another couple of days going to make any difference?
Update when you have plenty of time to sit and think about it carefully and make sure that you have done everything that you should have before committing yourself to an irreversible action.

Personally I have not upgraded, and as everything works OK for me now I probably won't.
I have downloaded the update and it is sitting on my laptop so I might do it later, but I am one of those who believes in "if it aint broke don't fix it" so I probably won't

Okay thank you. Driftless and AshleyJ that was very kind of you; I realize this is a technical forum and you didn't have to say that. It will be a learning experience. Are there any programs that let you sync to your desktop the file store or what's on your SD/CF cards?

Try out Mightsync, It says it works for storage cards but I'm not sure if it will work with the file store.

Wow... sorry to hear about that. As a father myself and also having a loving but heavy-handed wife I completely understand!

I would recommend next time to save any recording like that to your storage card. The storage cards will not get wiped with a ROM upgrade.

Norman (www.norman.com) maybe able to save your data, they are specialised in recovering data on pratically anything in even the worst case scenario, the bad part, it will cost you serious amounts of cash. It all depends on how much you want it back, and as a father of three I can imagine you do...
There are moments in your life you want to capture, and I am the kind of person that has forgets to bring his camera or by stupid mistake removing any created material. Just think, there will be plenty more fun/emotional moments to memorize, and I will at least try to capture as much as I can.
