nokia 8910i + hx4700 --> Luck with GPRS?
Has anyone with a nokia 8910i been able to use it as a GPRS modem with the hx4700?

I've spent hours pulling the hair off of my head trying to get GPRS net access for the pda.

By the way I've been trying with BT Phone manager all this time.. no bloody luck

Yep no problems surfing the net on the phone.

When the ipaq attemps to establish a GPRS connection through the phone it spontaneously disconnects/is disconnected from the phone.

No problems connecting to the phone via bluetooth to send and recieve files though. I would really like to use the pair together to get some net access whilst on the road.

Can you try:

1) surfing with your phone and then create the partnership
2) create the partnership and then connect to gprs.

I suggest to add a "Z" (no quote) if front of the AT init string in the advanced settings. This string should look something like +CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet" just add a Z in front (before the +). It solved my connection problem with my SE V800 (and was not necessary with any other GPRS phones I had before). If you use *99***1# (1 being the profile number in the phone) instead of *99# + the init string, just add Z on its own in the init string.

Hope it helps.

Hey Manni!

Thanks for the help. A few clarifications though.

1) I used *99***1# on my 5450 + T68i and *99# on my 5450 +Nokia 6600. I replaced the 5450 with a 4700. They both worked with no problem.

If I use the 4700 + T68i, will I still use *99***1# ? And if I use 4700 + Nokia 8910i, will I use *99# + init string + Z ?

Or should I just use the init string + the Z before the + ? And this information is to be entered as the number to be dialed?

Pardon my ignorance. Am a bit slow with these things.
Thanks.

I have only this minute managed to connect my 4700 to the i/net/email via bluetooth and my Nokia 6600. After several days and hair pulling, and all the same effects as the initial thread author, gave in and phoned my isp/mobile people (they are one and the same). They emailed me a concise .pdf of the whole setup procedure. It connected beautifully right out of the hat, with much elation from me ('..you bloody beauty.', or words to that effect...). I had no problems at all connecting via the wireless when I first got it last week, at least my wireless setup at home. Have yet to find a hotspot somewhere to give that a go. Not too many over here in Perth, Western Australia just yet!! The dial string given for the b/tooth modem connection was *99#, but the auto configure of the BT programme was always wanting *99****1#, which seems to be the biggest hangup for it. The instructions also called for an extra dial string command and DNS field entry. I will be happy to email this .pdf on if anyone wants it, suppose it should work anywhere.
Bill...................;-)
