Hard reseting??
Hi Guys,

The problems have started. Having had to soft reset my 4700 several times now I have just picked it up after not using it for approx 3 weeks. When I turned it on a PI reminder had come up but obviously conflicted with the HP security. The whole thing froze and after soft reseting does not get past the HP screen at the very beginning when you turn it on.

I have syncronised my 4700 regularly but dont remember clicking on anything that specifically mentioned backup. If I now hard reset it and put it back in the cradle to syncronise it, will active sync simply restore all the data that was previously on it or am I stuffed? Help would be GREATLY appreciated - I have put a lot of data into the 4700 and could really do without losing it.

I await your help.........

I can't say for sure that all data will be restored. Stuff stored in IPAQ file store will be wiped out.
I do know that on the occassions I've had to do a hard reset all my PIM info and files, contacts, etc have been replaced on the next sync. The only problem I've had is that on this latest ROM update I lost my synce with Avantgo. Actually I still seem to have it as it seem to sync and update the right amount of file but when I click on the Avantgo icon I go to a new user registration page...I'll figure it out.
Anyway, I'm sure more members will follow up with futher clarification but suffice it to say all is not lost!

Thanks - that's good news.

What exactly is stored in the ipaq file store? (I'm a novice at the whole 4700 thing)

The iPaq File Store is empty, unless you have saved anything there. You can install your programs there. The File Store will not be erased if you do a hard reset.

Also, Re-synching after a hard reset will not automatically put all your programs and data back. If you have not done a backup using iPaq Backup, or Sprite Backup, there isn't much that can be done to save your data.
Re-synching after a hard reset will not automatically put all your programs and data back.
The one exception to this is your PIM data. If you've been syncing with your desktop and use Outlook, when you re-establish your partnership after a hard reset, it will copy all your PIM data back to your PPC (from the point you last sync'd with your desktop).

I know this doesn't help much, but next time....

Make backups of your data to SD card.
