I have both an extended original hp 3600mAh battery and a 5700mAh Neodigits battery-leather case.
After reading this thread I have changed my 1800 battery with my 3600 and I have tested today.
I have to say that until now I have found nothing wrong with battery life neither in the 1800 battery nor in 3600 battery.
I haven't tested yet the 5700 non-OEM battery to share my results with you. The tests I have done show the same battery duration in both 1800 and 3600 batteries before and after rom upgrade. I have not tested yet wifi and bt.
Reading this thread I can guess 2 possible reasons
1) If there was a problem only with extended battery then the problem could be either with the battery measurement or with the led indication that shows a false full charged battery. It has nothing to do rom upgrade and how the device "sees" a battery with real battery duration
2) If the problem consists in both 1800 and 3600 batteries and as long as only some people seem to have it , it could be either a battery hungry program or a wrong flashing.

Finally I have to state that I have tested by using both a Sd card (PQI 1gb) and a Hitachi Microdrive 4gb ..

Hmm... same problem here...
Hi there! First post for me...

After I read here about these issues, I went on and checked with my hx4700. Truth is I hadn't noticed this before, but after clocking the battery from full to nearly empty, instead of the usual 4 hours on a standard battery, I'm getting like 2,5 hours

With the extended battery I'm having a slightly better response, something like 75% of the usual duration of a full battery...

I didn't notice this previously mainly because I haven't been working with my hx4700 all that much...

Now I'm really bugged

Regards!

Hey testers! Why don't you try the new 1.10 rom with XCPUScalar to see if it will improve something regarding the problem above.

XCPUScalar (as PocketHackmaster) do not improve. On the other hand they shorthen battery life. The problem is that both programs scale the clock without scaling the voltage. This keeps high voltage in cpu for 4700 and "overwrites" the power management feature of 4700 which scales the voltage provided to the cpu depending on the cpu usage.

Now I'm ready with my battery test result. Here is the report on it.

I fully charged both Standart and Extended (HP 3600 mAh) batteries.
Reverted to ROM 1.00.
Turned Wi-Fi, Bleutooth and IrDA.
Set volume and brightness levels to maximum.
SD and CF cards were both inserted.

I launched Media Player
Started playing *.wmv file (64 Kbps, 9 sec length) in REPEATED mode.

Standart Battery TEST:
Start Time: 15:50 100%
End Time: 18:20 3%

Total Runtime: 2 H 30 MIN

Extended Battery TEST:
Start Time: 18:30 100%
End Time: 21:20 0%

I took out the battery and inserted it back. I didn't charge the battery.
iPaq turned on showing 38% charge level. What a surprise though.
I continued the test...

Start time: 21:20 38%
End Time: 22:45 0%

I took out the battery and inserted it back for the second time.
I didn't charge the battery either.
iPaq turned on showing 20% charge level this time. It is astonishing!
I continued the test...

Start Time: 22:45 20%
End Time: 23:25 0%

I again took the battery out and installed it for the third time.
Turned iPaq on and the battery level was 20% again. Strange as it may seem.
Continued the test...

Start Time: 23:25 20%
End Time: 00:00 0%

Total runtime of the Extended Battery from one charge was 5 H 00 MIN
(Pay attenton, it is twice as much comparing to Standart Battery)
But I had to take the battery out 3 times to use all battery's charge.

So, as you can see, there's a big problem with reading charge level from the ROM.
In my case, reverting back to ROM 1.00 didn't sove the problem.
It's nothing left for me but to wait HP to fix this bug.
Hope, they won't delay it for a long time.

No, I am not an HP emploee, but there was a thread about this issue in Antontomov's forum (the developer of PocketHackmaster..).
Maybe the thread is still there

Some have said that these problems were possibly caused by a bad flash, or a bad file, etc. I thought that could be a possibility, so I've downloaded the ROM update file three times, on two different machines. Also I have flashed the ROM more than 5 times on two different machines, in switching back to the original, and then back to the new ROM. Same results from either machine with the new ROM.

Reverting back to the original ROM didn't help me out much either. I thought it was doing pretty well, until I switched back to the Extended battery. Battery life just sucks.

I am back on the new ROM, because I want the faster network browsing. I also hope HP doesn't drag their feet in fixing this problem.

Does the battery meter show a quick drop in all percentages or in a certain spectrum?
I meaan does it drop the same at 100 , 90%, 60 and 30%?

On my machine, it is a pretty steady drop. For example, took the 4700 off the cradle with a 100% charge 25 minutes ago. No wireless, nothing else running, and I wrote one Journal entry, it's been sitting idle since (not set to automatically turn off right now). Now showing 84%. At that rate, it will be discharged in about 2.5 hours. And that is with the extended battery.

Of course, the rate of drop is faster if I am using the wi-fi.

I also flashed mine several times, but it did no difference. I wonder why reverting back to the original ROM didn't solve the issue. How could the ROM affect the hardware? I think the most reasonable idea is that the ROM 1.00 which they provide is somehow modifed. That might explain why the problem remains after downgrade.

Charge level of extended battery is read incorrectly. When iPaq switches off because of low charge, I take the batery out and put it back at one stroke. And here it is: 40% And it works for some more. And I have to do this trick several times to use all battery's charge.

I also hope iPaq will provide the update in a reasonable time.

I agree totally with that statement. I just wish that the ROM Update Utility had the option to backup the existing ROM before updating to the new ROM. Then I know I would have had my 'original' ROM, and not the ROM v1.00 HP provided.
