Sounds like you have joined the merry band of men that have found out that some of their software is not ROM v1.1 complaint.

My advice would be to re-install the old ROM (It can be downloaded from the HP site where you got the new version from), & remove any Today plug-ins, then try updating to the new ROM again.

Also, have a read through this forum's various threads about the ROM update to see if there's mention of any other programs that are causing this problem that you may have loaded on your PPC.

Good Luck!

I don't think you are meant to use bootloader in this way. ie its only used as part of the update as run from your PC. I believe the folks at HP use it in the way you have to do advanced stuff.

If Iam not mistaken you have put the device in serial communication mode with you PC

Thoughts anyone ?

This sounds pretty critical. You might have an overpriced paperweight now. I had a pretty serious lock-up once and was able to fix things by disconnecting the battery for a sufficient ammount of time for the internal battery to completely run down.

If this fails to work, it's time to call HP support to see what can be done.

Exit from Bootloader
Hello
man from HP Hotline (on live chat support) said me to return them the PDA....
but i know that only 1 command line can restart the WinCE on my 4700...
Several notices :

HP have put a password in the "Canary Mode" (when 4700 is in bootloader)....so after connecting via Serial and using hypertermnial or via USB and using MyTTY...help command ("h" and "?") doesn't Work...thanks HP...and some command are not accessible (locked)

CF card are not usable in the bootloader mode...only SD works

HP 4700 s bootloader command are similar to XDA II command (cause HTC is producing both bootloader program)...

i can save my 4700s rom on a SD card (using r2s command), rewrite it in the 4700 (using s2r command)...but the 4700 still reboot (manual soft or hardreset) on the bootloader mode...

i ll try to put away battery..but the internal batt will still keep in memeory some informations...and if i open the 4700 to disconnect this battery, HP will F... my guaranty....

if someone knows a operation or a command that will do my 4700 exit from bootloader mode...or if someone knows how update the ROM directly by usin gcommand in bootloader and a .NBF file (rom file) on a PC and dialing by USB or serial...thanks

"USB Time Out..." could mean there's somethin wrong with the connection. Why not try on another PC with direct USB connection (no hubs) to reinstall the rom update.

I didn't have to unplug my internal battery. It isn't very big and runs down pretty quick, especially if the hx4700 is frozen on.

Welcome to the club I do have the same problem as you.

Two things, I know so far:

1. Before connecting to the iPAQ with MultyTTY, kill the ActivSync process on your PC with TaskManager. It is called wscomm.exe or the like.

2. After you connected to your iPAQ, press the Enter key util you see a promp ">USB" or ">SER". This depends on your connection. To unlock the commands, enter 'password BOOTLOADER'

A list of h2200 bootloader commands can be found here, but it seems, that a lot of them are no more available. Unfortunately, 'h' and '?' are disabled and don't work no more.

here is a list of XDA Himalaya Bootloader commands. The command 'type 0' (Do hardware clear boot) looks promising, but does not work on the hx4700.

If you found the command to restart WinCE, please let me know ASAP.

Found a similar post at HP. This info here might be of use to help with this problem.

Have your rescue your baby yet? I have the exact problem as you before but now my baby is alive.

I just upgrade my 4700 with the latest ROM (must same language as original one) and then the update process will complete without any problem.
