Rookie needs a lot of help
Just delving into the world of pocket pc's...decided to take the high end route with the 4705...but I am admittedly somewhat technically challenged.
For example, I've had some success connecting to the internet through wifi access...although, sometimes when it says I'm connected, the explorer can't find any of the sites I'm looking for.
I'm also having difficulties with e-mail...I set things up with my home email account through SBC global but when trying to get messages downloaded nothing happens...any help would be appreciated...

Thanks

Unfortunately we're going to need a lot more detail in order to help you sort out any issues you may be having. Can you enumerate the software and steps you are taking to try to connect to the internet and surf the web as well as what you are doing to try to send a receive email? Are you using third party applications? What types of email servers are you trying to connect to? Have you set up different mail accounts in the built in messaging application? What happens when you try to connect via WiFi? What settings are you using in your WiFi configuration? Does the WiFi program itself turn the WiFi button green when you connect (indicating a good connection) or does it turn yellow and stay that way? Or does it just stay gray? Is you WiFi configured to connect to "The Internet" or "Work Network" (hint, alway set this to connect to 'work', not the Internet - it's counterintuitive but always works for me). More info will go a long way toward helping us to help you.

Welcome, and I too just got a 4705 and spent time reading through the MYPDA as Blueradish has suggested. I'm also techically challenged, but after reading through the MyPDA articles I'm now able to connect via WiFi to the internet (although sometimes I do have trouble with PIE return "Cannot display Page or 404 Server error, or something to that effect). I also set up my home email (Comcast/POP) in Pocket Outlook by creating an Account within PO. I did this at home and I'm able to get my comcast emails, but what surprised me is that when I sync at work with the cradle, it will also get my comcast email. How it does this I don't have a clue, but I love it!

One thing I have notices, is since I set up Avantgo 4.0, it seems to take much longer for programs to load. I installed Avantgo on my SD card, so perhaps that is why apps are taking longer to load.

Enjoy your new 4705!

By default Avantgo files will be stored in the Main Memory. This is why everything is slower.

You need a program like Tweaks2k2 that allows you to tell the 4700 where you want Avantgo files stored. I have mine stored in File Store, thereby freeing up my MM.

Link in MyPDA for Tweaks2k2. It's also very inexpensive.

Blueradish,
When I installed Avantgo 4.0, and during the install process, it allowed me to select where to install to. I selected SD, and on my SD card it created a folder called "AvantGo Client", and within that folder other folders were created called "Databases, Fonts, Pods, and the AvantGo application file (file size 161k). Does this all mean that some of the files during the install process are still in the Main Memory as well as on my SD card? Using File Explorer, and looking in the Windows folder, there is a AvantGo folder, but it does not contain the folders I mentioned above.

I kind of wish I did not upgrade to 4.0 as now it is so slow that it is almost useless. It now takes about 1 minute from the time in click on the AvantGo icon in the start menu until the program comes up. How can I revert back to the version of AvantGo that is in ROM?

If you don't have a back-up form before you installed it then the only the way to do this is would be a hard reset.

I am not sure why yours takes so long to start - I am using v4 on the sd card of my 2210 and it takes about 7-10 seconds to open

Why do you use Avantgo? I mean I have two accounts, but I have wireless internet at home, and at work. The only time I cannot connect is when I am travelling between the two!

You're having some fun tonight aren't you!

Not everyone has the access to the internet wherever they go that you do - but still may want to read the pages they have downloaded.
