Edit Boot Screen
Hey fellow iPAQers!

Had a fairly technical question for you, so I hope someone can help. I was wondering if it is at all possible to change the bootloader boot screen (i.e. splash screen, the blue and white HP screen that shows every time a soft reset is preformed). I had a Casio BE-300 a while back, and it had an editable boot screen (i.e. I could replace the casio screen with an image of my choice) and I want to do the same with my new hx4700. I hope this is possible, because editable boot screens are alot of phun!

Hi Justin Noland. I saw a thread about this a few weeks ago and I thing the answer at that time was that you can't change the screen on the 4700 like you could some earlier devices. If anyone has any updated info, please let us know.

I will have to do a search on this, I was able to do this with my smartphone. I would think that would be similar to a PPC

I don't want to risk it, as it'd take me to long to re-setup all my work data.

I think they don't. There are no instructions on the boot screens. I don't trust a page like that... hahaha.

I agree that they likely don't work w/ WM5, but there are instructions. You have to register with the site and more info/boot screens will appear afterward.

Ops, I didn't register because I did not see the instructions. Anyways... I've got WM5!

Thanks. And forget what I said!

99.999 percent not possible with the hx. I looked at this concept for months when I had mine and the reality of it is that it is in a locked, hidden, read-only file in the ROM and you would need a serial connection to the device, most likely on a linux box, with a custom application that could read/write to the ROM at a hardware, not OS, level to replace the image file. Tedious and highly impractical. Sorry to rain on everyones parade...
