Button 1 mapped to "Align Screen"
I successfully upgraded the ROM of my hx4705. Last night I noticed that button 1 is permanently mapped to "align screen." Under buttons, and in the registry, button 1 is mapped to calendar. I changed the button so it maps to another program and it still brings up "align screen." It doesn't matter where button 1 is pointed, the result is always the same.

Can anyone help me fix this? I rely on button 1 to bring up the calendar.

Thanks

Have you tried a soft reset?

Did you restore from a back-up?

I soft reset several times and inspected the registry for the button configuration. The registry is updating when I make a change in the button GUI. The PDA continues to call "align screen" no matter what is in the registry. Further, a sustained button push on button 1 doesn't work anymore either.

I can revert to a back-up before the ROM update, but am hoping to avoid it. The ROM update wipes the PDA and it takes me about three days to install everything and get the programs registered/configured. I have about a half gig of programs installed.

Also, I'm not sure if Sprite Backup will restore the ROM image to its predecessor: When restoring, does the image write to RAM, SD, CF and iPAQ File Store only or does it also rewrite the ROM as well?

Thanks

Sprite Backup will not restore your PDA to the version 1.00 ROM, but you can rerun the Rom Update Utility to roll back to version 1.00 ROM, then restore your Sprite Backup

I had this problem once before the ROM update and once after it.

The problem never persisted after a soft reset though, which it seems like it is doing in your case :/

Seems like a hard reset may be the only way to get rid of it :/

I don't know if this will be useful but this is a discussion regarding buttons and the registry currently in process over at Brighthand.

Problem fixed!??? I soft-reset the PDA at least 25 times, but never placed it in the sync cradle (I leave it at work). After I sync'd, the button began working again. Since then, I've soft reset several times and it seems to be holding. Hmmm....

Thanks to all who responded!

Jeff

For future reference, the problem is a bug with the touchpad. With windows mobile PDAs, "select"+button1 == Align screen. Occasionally the touchpad gets "stuck" thinking that someone is tapping the middle region (i.e. "select") and when one presses button1, it brings up the align screen programme... this has happened to me before and is quite annoying :\

I was really puzzling over this.

Thanks ShALLaX!

Many thanks.. I had this issue too and thought it was something to do with a recent restore on my hx4700 (no ROM upgrade). Took me just a few seconds to get to this thread and the answer I needed.. cool site.. cool people.. Cheers!
